Wild Hei Cha from Yun Tai Mountains. This is the original An Hua tea varietal that has grown in the mountains of Gao Jia Shan and Yun Tai Shan for centuries (maybe longer).  This is part of Gao Jia Shan's Wild Tea Series.

Hei Zhuan 黑砖 is a unique An Hua style of tea that is based on Qian Liang Tea. It's a blend of grade 2,3 and 4 sized leaves. It is different from Fu Brick in that it does not have golden flowers 金花. It is quite similar to "Hua Zhuan" 花砖, but uses a larger ratio of coarse/large leaves in its blend (Hua Zhuan blend is a bit smaller average leaf size). Keep in mind that the size/grade of leaves influences the taste, but it should not be equated with "quality." For example, although all Hei Zhuan are blended from a similar ratio of leaf grades/sizes, this offering (being from wild high altitude tea trees picked in spring), will outshine another Hei Zhuan that was (for example) harvested from plantation bushes during the second spring flush. Age is another factor, but we won't get into that!

Each Brick is 1 Kilogram.  If you order anything other than a whole brick you will get pieces.

Harvested in April 2012, pressed in August 2012

Region:  Gao Jia and Yun Tai Mountains, An Hua County of Hunan

We are also offering the "Hua Zhuan" 花砖 from the same year and producer here!

Sweet, Fresh, and Mild

"I got a sample portion in the Dark Tea Box that I ordered in November 2025. When that delivery arrived, my neighbor and I had a lot of fun opening and just smelling the teas (I do plan to make some with her soon too!). This tea caught my attention because of how fresh and grassy (with a hint of sweetness) it smelled. I love how sweet it is naturally when brewed. It does not have a strong acidic flavor like a raw pu'er might give. I also like how brewing chunks of the dense brick extends the number of times that you can brew the tea and get fairly consistent cups. The leave unfurl much slower than if you used a chuck of a cake. I liked this one enough to make a purchase of the full brick, and I am looking forward to enjoying it for a long time. I have brewed it both in a gaiwan and using a tea basket infuser for a mug, so that is has the room it need to expand."

Puzzling, awesome fu

"The first time I've tried this sample 3 months ago it was unbreakable and I thought it was probably a machine-made thing low quality product so I kept it on the side. Today I've read an article that tightly pressed bricks are actually a great thing to protect the tea from oxygen, and it tends to develop deep honey notes. Tight is great but people don't like it as it's not convenient. Intrigued it reminds me this unbreakable brick so I gave it an other try. Battling to get around 6-7g with pick, knife and chopping board. Now at the 12th infusions, +1L of tea in, there is still this intense sweet fruitiness coming up and very thick texture. Quite tea drunk, this is a whole experience. This tea makes your all mouth salivate, and because you cannot break it, it comes slowly through infusions. Now even water is a delight as the all mouth is very oily. This tea is very puzzling, I lost some raw pu erh because I kept them sealed for a year or so and they have dried out, becoming dull and tasteless. So I've learned to break whole cakes in their bags to make them lively again + keep access to some air. Now there is this brick which I kept zipped for these last 3 months and because it's tightly pressed it probably cannot breathe much, but it's just amazing. I guess I have to find a middle way and this tea taught me that. One of my favorite in the dozens of fu I've ordered from YS, definitely the less practical to break, but well rewarding"
