Kunming storage refers to Pu-erh teas that were stored in Kunming, Yunnan. Kunming storage would be considered dry storage especially compared to Guangdong or Banna wet storage (also called traditional storage). Kunming stored Pu-erh teas are typically strong in taste and are closer to their origins having retained much of their original character compared to their wetter-stored counterparts.

Pu-erh tea is made from Yunnan large-leaf varietal of Camellia Sinensis. It is typically processed into compressed cakes, bricks and tuos. Pu-erh is particularly special because it can be aged for decades or longer, always changing and (in most cases) developing more depth and texture. Raw Pu-erh (生茶) is the traditional form of Pu-erh, and is sun-dried and compressed.

Excellent, true tea!

"I love this sampler. I also ordered some Guangdong aged teas as well and I much prefer the Kunming aged ones. Complex, bitter, strong but with an unmistakably aged taste. 2000 Zhang Xiang Bu Lang is my absolute favorite, closely followed by 2002 YPH Red Yi Wu! Loved the floral and thick 2004 HLH Na Nuo Bai Hao immensely, going 12 steeps before I gave up! If you like strong tea that has not been compromised by wet storage you will love this sampler!"

Not my cup of tea

"Delivery and overall organisation were perfect. I am grateful for the opportunity to taste five samples, but I found the raw pu-erh teas not to my taste - too bitter and some even verging on the unpleasant. I followed the instructions for making proper pu-erh, but still the result was not to my liking. One other sheng I had tasted before I likes very much unusual as it was - had a strong cooked rice fragrance, quite appealing. The ripe pu-erhs though I liked very much. Thank you, Yunnansourcing, for the chance to know my preference in pu-erhs."

"First off let me say that probably all the samplers on the site are worth the educational experience and I've decided to throw one in each time I order off the .com site. I've bought many of the Guangdong and Banna stored teas from YS usually in whole cakes. They are almost always a sure bet for me. But I didn't really know where to start with "dry stored" aged teas on the site. The sampler gave me a great place to try different areas and appreciate the different flavors without the "wet stored" taste. Some were hits for this wetter storage sheng guy and some were misses but all were worth while. Now if i could only justify a whole cake of that 2000 CNNP "Zhang Xiang Bu Lang"....."
