This is a 2010 spring wild harvested Tian Jian tea from Bei Wan 北湾 area in Anhua county. Wild grown tea (荒山茶) was picked and processed carefully using kill-green (frying), rolling, fermenting, and drying and then steamed and packed into these little hand-made baskets.

This tea was basket aged (25kg basket) since 2010 in Hunan, and has a nice aged taste and feel to it. The aging has transformed the subtle smokiness into velvety rich spices with a honey and fruit fullness and depth in the mouth. It steeps many times and each infusion has its own charm and unique character. This aged Tian Jian is one of the best we've ever had and is unlike any other tea we've ever offered.

Cha Yu Lin is a small An Hua producer that works with tea growers and small village cooperatives to produce unique small batch Hei Cha. They've been producing An Hua teas since 2004!

aged, woody, clear, long-lived

"Brewing: 6g/100ml, 100°C, flash rinse, 15s, +5s. Warmed-up dry leaves smell of very old wood. When wet, they get even more woody. The liquor is a symphony of wood notes - all crisp, clear and harmonious, without any muddiness - on a tart fruity background (like unripe plum). Still good after 20 steeps, when it gets mellow and the stone fruit becomes ripe and moves upfront."

Good Tian Jian, on the

"Good Tian Jian, on the pricier side. Tasting notes: sweet tobacco taste, wet earth, very shou like (increases with subsequent brews), develops a full body"

Seriously, try it!

"This is what I want a shu puer to be: Earthy but light, lingering mouthfeel with wood and leather, but, again, light. A hint of smokiness. Smell that lid and/or empty cup, and the most enchanting cucumbery, minty aroma will waft into your nostrils. Seriously, try some now."

Juicy cucumber on a wet forest floor.

"Basically what the title says. The taste reminds me of that same "cucumbery" taste that the Fujian Silver Needle tea has. But there's also this BOLD prominent taste of a mossy/stony wet forest floor, or a loamy dirt petrichor that I found really pleasant. Virtually no astringency and this tea has a JUICY mouthfeel as it doesn't dry your mouth. Steeped at 100° at 5/10/15/20/25/30/45/100/150/300 with 4g of tea in a 50ml gaiwan."

Wow

"If I were Scott I would send every one of my clients a sample of this tea as they would all come back for more, blows my mind how good it is and Tian Jian itself is hard to describe, but it is delicious and like the description says, this is a complex in a good way really special tea - Thanks to YS for the education you provide us all"

Clean, vibrant, complex

"Tea has an amazingly complex taste, I taste 4-5 flavours simultaneously and each flavour is clean and crisp, like the sound of a bell ringing. Much move 'lively' than one would expect from a typical Hei Cha. Tea reinfuses well and I found it brews best in porcelain, with my Duanni pot muting the aromatics somewhat. Best enjoyed Gongfu style of course."
