During our travels in Wu Liang we came across this incredibly well aged mao cha from 2007 spring harvest.  It has been aged in a superbly clean and dry condition in Nan Jian township for 5 years!

The brewed tea has a very nice and clean aroma with hints of camphor and orchid.  The tea soup is a clear golden-orange color that hints at it's maturity.

400 grams per cake (7 cakes per bamboo leaf tong).

Overall rating: 4.6 / 5 from 5 reviews.

I go this way

"It seems like there are two reasonable options to getting a several years cake with an aged taste. You can buy a wetter storage region cake that has advanced the Tea faster or you can get a cake like this and the 2011 Xiaguan "Golden Memory" Aged Mao Cha Raw Pu-erh tea cake which is designed from conception to achieve some aged taste. I prefer this style. This cake is fantastic. I have a full cake of this and quite enjoy it. I will seek out cakes like this one and the Xiaguan in the future. This one is more affordable and a good value."

The real de

"This is clearly high quality tea, even in the eyes of guests, who have recognised this as something special. Rather like a fine white wine, it has mature well developed flavours and is one for an occasional joyous treat, rather than simpler brews you might want to use as daily brews"

Flavor Flashback! It's obvious by

"Flavor Flashback! It's obvious by its mouth feel and texture, as well as the long finish, that this is a high-quality tea. But be forewarned: It's not for everyone. It offers some of the same kind of flavors I remember from my days of smoking really good cigars: aged tobacco and smoke with hints of dry spiciness. And ex-smokers delight that brought back the aromas and visions of cigar-friendly bars, humidors and great tobacco shops. If you're looking for sweet, fruity flavors, this one's not for you."

I am not so much

"I am not so much a fan of describing taste of tea through taste of other things like strawberry or vanilla or earth or champignons etc. Therefor I stick just with the taste and quality of what it actually is. To me it is an exellent tea and there is no doubt about its top quality. Enjoy trying it out yourself! achim"
