This is an experimental varietal growing in the west of Wu Yi Shan township area. It's called 高山土茶, and is a perfect varietal for producing black tea.

The taste is incredibly sweet with a slight coffee roasted taste. The tea soup is ultra viscous and the mouth feel is rich and velvety! A highly refined black tea that delivers a complex but easygoing experience!

Very fine.

"The leaves are very fine, but intact, best if you use a gaiwan. Yiwu influence shines through slightly, incredible value, almost unbeatable if you're looking for hongcha with no malty notes. It holds a steady brew for over 8 infusions. More than I could ask for."

Daniel (5/5)

Delicious quality choice

"Some teas just taste like high quality when you brew them right. This is one of them. No bitterness. And with a malty roast that just warms the body and soul."

Delicious!!

"Fantastic black tea. Very chocolatey scent that continues to come through as your drink it. I bought 100 grams just to try but I am thoroughly impressed and plan to buy more when I run out. Features in my morning rotation of black teas. Beautiful whole leaves. Start with 30 second steeps and increase time as you go."

Q&A

I really love the 2023 harvest, Do you think this tea could be good for short-term/long-term aging?
If you keep it sealed in a cool place I would expect it to taste great for up to 5 years.
This translates as Takayama tea or cultivar? Is the cultivar of Japanese heritage? Does YS have any other tea that is made from the same material?
No relation to the Japanese cultivar.
Is this the same varietal that's used for white tea, esp. Yin Zhen in Fujian? I know it's also called Tu Cha?
No, I don't think it's the same as the Fuding varietal.
