Grown naturally in a small family plot in Tong Mu Guan village in Wu Yi Shan, these Da Hong Pao varietal tea bushes have been growing without human involvement and are picked twice a year in May and late September!

The aroma is at once nuts, chocolate and floral, while the taste has these elements too, but also some slight astringency to complement its pungent and vibrant nature. Sweet and thick in the mouth, this is the tea that reminds just how good unadulterated naturally grown tea can be!

Reviews

Very pleasant and comforting

"I‘m not the most experienced Yancha drinker but I really like this tea. It tastes like heavy roasting, has very good endurance and is very pleasant to drink on a cold winter day. The taste is quite balanced as well, maybe I‘d like a tiny little bit more sweetness and complexity to have a 5-star Yancha experience. Still it‘s a very good tea that I‘d buy again without thinking twice, especially for the price."

Decent

"I've only been drinking rock oolongs for about a year so take this review with a grain of salt. I purchased this Wild Da Hong Pao to compare with another (Da Hong Pao Big Red Robe Wu Yi Shan Rock Oolong). While this wild tea is perfectly acceptable, but it didn't blow me away. The tea seems to sit somewhere in between black tea and an oolong. The chocolate and dried fruit notes are present, but exist almost as an after thought. Brewing with Gaiwan the tea doesn't seem to progress or develop over time ( perhaps I haven't found the right cadence?). If anything it seems to do better with longer steeping. This is when the minerality begins to emerge. It's a decent tea however, when given the choice I will almost alway reach for the Shan Rock over the Wild every time. Glad I tried it, but will likely not repurchase."

Brilliant, smooth.

"This one is very good. A decent Da Hong Pao copy-cat. A solid 4. 5/5 from me. Spring 2023 Batch"

So cool!

"Such an interesting oolong! Closer to black (red) tea than to green, it's an interesting mix that (to be) brings memories of Indian Darjeeling, but more mineral and just a bit more astringent. Nutty, a bit citrussy with a black tea aftertaste, maybe a hint of dark chocolate and minerality that almost bites your tongue. (sparkly water feeling) Starting 3rd steep it becomes thicker, with tea drunk body sensation."

Soothing and Mineral-forward (Spring 2024)

"Great chocolate aroma, reminding me of sticky toffee pudding and dried cherries and blueberries. Medium roast and nuttiness. The tea remains light throughout, with a soothing oolong flavour that reminds me of a houjicha. Although the flavour does not develop any further, I found that the tingling mineral sensation on the sides of the mouth does get stronger. Will last 6+ brews and may benefit from longer brewing times."

Really lovely. Once you get

"Really lovely. Once you get your steep dialed in the chocolate notes really come out."

Da Hong Pao for the Win!

"The Wild Da Hong Pao is exquisite. listening to the tea, throughout each session, is a delightful journey. With each steep, you can taste the transformation, as the saponins dissipate. I purchased the Wild DHP along with both the AA premium and the 13 Years Aged, so i could do a comparison. I fell in love with DHP with my first sip and look forward to experiencing all the Wuyishan teas I can."
