A lovely spring Shui Xian from Phoenix Village in Wu Yi mountainous area. Shui Xian varietal is an older varietal that has become less popular since it's got a stronger taste than Da Hong Pao, Rou Gui and Tie Luo Han. Our Shui Xian is grown by village elders who stubbornly keep their gardens entirely the Shui Xian varietal. The tea bushes are around 60 years old and grow naturally.

This Spring Harvest Shui Xian we offer is a medium oxidation version with a "Honey Aroma" taste (pinyin: Mi Xiang) and mouthfeel. There is a hint of brown sugar, lots of honey and hay in there with a thick mineral base that delivers many infusions of lovely, thick tea soup!

Fine for its price

"If you’ve tried many rock oolongs and tasted a variety of Shui Xians, this tea won’t surprise you. The only thing that sets it apart from other Shui Xians is its light honey note. Overall, it’s fine, but nothing remarkable - I’ve had Shui Xians both better and worse than this one. However, the price is very appealing it’s rare to find a decent-quality Shui Xian at this price point."

Great First Phoenix Oolong

"This was my first introduction to Phoenix Oolongs, and I really love it!"

Surprisingly good.

"Another steal at this price, if you want to grab some WuYi to balance out the weight to price ratio, this isn't going to a compromise. Surprising strength, aromatics aside, it's not the classic variant so don't expect a lot of the traditional notes. Still, a worthy addition to any collection, especially those who are new to WuYi's bold-nature of oolongs."

Excellent tea and incredible value

"Rich, fully body flavor with a delightful bite and no bitterness or astringency. Roasted caramel, honey sweetness, and hints of black pepper and cardamom. Will give many infusions and is much higher quality than its price-point suggests."

Perfect day to day tea

"Very nice for a daily drinker. It's quite light in taste and is very well suited for grandpa style brewing."

So Good!

"I love this tea so much! I have not had a lot of Wu Yi Oolongs. I've had the "classic rou gui" and the "zi hong pao" and I love both so I wanted a Wu Yi at a budget price. Since I don't have a lot of experience with these I can't really speak to where it sits in the range of Wu Yi oolongs, but this has a light roasted flavor and almost grassy/hay notes. I love it very much and am so happy with it, especially at this price. Thank you."

Love this oolong!

"This tea has notes of honeysuckle, tobacco leaf, and saltine crackers. This tea, especially for this price point, really knocked it out of the park."

Such an awesome tea - smell the lid!!

"This tea is amazing and such a steal for the price. It is a refreshing alternative to typical rock oolongs which often go from heavy roast to mineral water in a very enjoyable but not hugely complex way. The rinse already gives off an amazing scent of almond tart, honey, and roast. Please, if you are brewing in a gaiwan, smell the lid after the rinse or first infusion… it is incredible. Again, unlike many other rock oolongs, I feel the taste matches the smell in terms of complexity and delicious flavor. The tea changes over infusions from brown sugar and cliff flavor with hints of floral to a comforting mix of honey and hay that leaves a pleasant coat on the roof of the mouth. The body feel is calming and it creates a state of restful alertness that is perfect for studying or for a mindfulness meditation. Bravo to the growers, I will be buying more."

Beautiful and Deep

"Beautiful, deep flavor. Very tasty oolong with large leaves and an almost herbal flavor."

Elliott F. (5/5)

Daily drinker

"I ordered a kilo of this to be a daily drinker. The flavor is mild with rocky sweetness and has a beautiful roasted almond woody sort of finish that I find common in Phoenix oolongs."
