We are proud to offer a Certified Organic Black Tea from Yunnan.  This tea was grown in the area of Simao and was harvested in March.

This Black Tea (1芽1叶红茶) is a Yunkang #10 varietal growing at and altitude 1300 meters (4300 feet) on the southern slope Ma Wei Mountain (just west of Pu'Er City).  The processing is typical of black tea with sun withering, rolling, oxidization (about 3 hours)  and finally drying.

This is a classic "Robust" style Yunnan Black, with a 1 leaf to 1 bud plucking style.  The taste is strong with some chocolate, fruit and vegetal notes.  The leaf and bud composition gives the tea a complex and full-bodied robust taste and mouth-feel. It can be brewed 6 to 8 times gong fu style

Our Yunnan Sourcing Certified Organic teas are certified organic by EcoCert SA and are certified organic to international standards (EcoCert is IFOAM accredited).**

Full flavor

"Nice and rich and full of flavor? I enjoy it both with sugar and milk and without."

Meh

"I was less than impressed with the organic teas I got from YS. This one has far less flavor than the teas in the golden Yunnan sampler. Since it was described as “robust,” I expected to be able to steep it western style, but it does not hold up to this, and gongfu style it has a strange off flavor, a bit like steeping paper."

Very Enjoyable

"I bought this as well as a large bag of Qimen/Keemun black, and can comment on the differences and similarities, but only as a tea enthusiast who does NOT typically drink black tea - this was an experimental order for me. I found both teas to be high quality and tasty in their own right, but the Keemun was more exotic to my palate, less earthy and down there, more floating and up there. I was looking for tea to hold up to milk and sugar, and of the two, this Yunnan Black served my needs much better. It is like sweeter and more interesting Irish Breakfast tea. Keemun was a bit too foreign as a black for my liking, from black I want body and comfort, and this Yunnan Black provided that better. Keemun is very stimulating, but when i am looking for stimulation i typically reach for greens or green oolongs. In short, I am very much enjoying this Yunnan Black. I don't have much to offer in terms of brewing tips and eastern style progression for this tea, as I have not deeply studied it yet, but I can say, as tea usually goes, that treating this tea gentler to start will yield lighter, sweeter flavors, but if you want that strong serious cup of black, push it right away and it wont disappoint."

Solid choice

"This is a solid choice for everyday drinking. Clean, expert picking, rich full bodied, bitter dark chocolate is the main experience. Good for 5-6 infusions in the gaiwan. I believe it will improve with age so I got some for now and another bag for storage as an experiment. Strong Qi (at least for me) so I enjoy it in the mornings."
