Our 2014 Autumn "Mu Shu Cha" (母树茶) refers to the mother tea trees of Mengku where the oldest and most primitive Yunnan Large Leaf varietal tea trees still flourish.  Our Mu Shu comes from 100-300 year old tea trees growing near Bingdao village in the south of Mengku county of Lincang.

This tea cake is an intense cha qi filled experience for the drinker.  It is powerful with some astringency and bitterness, that is moderated by it's old tree origins.   First flush and picked fairly early in the growth stage makes this tea a pungent and floral affair.  Even with just a few months of aging as mao cha we have noticed a distinctive "兰香" orchid aroma and taste.

A strong tea that will likely cause tea drunkeness in even the most seasoned lovers of young sheng!

Stone-pressed in the traditional manner.

400 grams per cake (7 cakes per bamboo tong)

This tea has been tested in a certified laboratory for 42 pesticides, and is within the EU MRL limits set for those 42 pesticide residues. For a full list of the 42 pesticides we tested for and more information about MRL testing and the EU Food and Safety commission click on this link.

Tea thoughts

"My package arrived today, so promptly all the way from China. I ordered 5 teas and decided to try this one first, used just a small amount in my tiny yi xing pot, got 6 satisfying sweepings and made some notes about each and a haiku about the session: 1. Sharp, grassy, slightly bitter in the back of the mouth. Mind already settling... 2.sharper but also fuller, slightly more bitter but also more earthy. A soft calmness is arising... 3. I am now noticing the birds chirping to each other and the gentle breeze blowing...oops, over-steeped a bit. Still not bad, bitterness is nearly gone, is lighter like I can taste the summer rains. 4. Warm full sensation in the belly and a feeling of contentment, bitterness is completely gone, smooth and gentle with lingering mouth feel, like a warm embrace from a loved one, long overdue. 5. Taking a brief pause from tea journey for some calligraphy, it is soft yet strong, flowing freely yet exacting, all is well. Time to refill my pot, is a bit light yet refreshing with nice lingering mouth feel, but may steep next one a bit longer. 6. Gently fading... so long my friend. Haiku: All these thoughts settling... Like leaves in my cup, so free... This Ancient Tea calls..."
