This is a first flush of Spring 2019 "Huang Pian" from old tea trees in the area of Bang Dong village in Lincang.  Huang Pian (黄片) are mature leaves that are typically removed from the finished mao cha before pressing.  Huang Pian being more mature and larger leaves are typically quite sweet and pleasant to drink, especially those that come from older tea trees.

These Huang Pian bricks are certainly pleasant to drink, not weak at all, but less bitter and astringent than a traditional plucked (2 leaf to 1 bud) raw pu-erh.  You might find yourself really enjoying these.  They will age gracefully developing more honey-like sweetness as the years pass.

Last year we used the same material to make this lovely dragon balls!

Perfectly balanced

"Excellent price - very good quality. Sweet, light and refreshing but with a strong mineral backbone."

Good Sheng with Sweetness

"The flavour of this Huang Pian is rich of sweetness and has a great Hui Gan. In terms of the compressing it is very hard to brew this tea without breaking the leaves. If you don`t do it right it can happen that the leaves won`t fold up until the thirst three brewings and you miss this delightful flavour."

My favorite Pu-erh out of the last tea club box so far.

"This tea was very pleasant to break up with a knife, and yielded very nice open layers of leaves. Because I make big pots, I was only able to get 3 washes plus the brief 10 second wash for my clay. I'm sure it would go further with a bit more in the pot. The first wash came back sweet and a little bit nutty to my palate, but I don't have all the vernacular down. By the third wash the soup was decidedly more astringent but very drinkable still. I would consider this to be an excellent daily drinker for fans of the raw Pu-erh, for me a very valuable find."
