This ripe cake is pressed from a wet pile batch made entirely from Meng Song area (Menghai County) tea leaves harvested in 2022 and wet piled in late 2022!

Meng Song ripe tea has a very potent cha qi, with a thick tea soup, dark chocolate like bitterness and fruity sweetness. Pure Meng Song ripe tea is relatively rare. It has a unique bitter-sweet character with a fast hui gan and a touch of licorice sweet after-taste.

For those of you who purchase this tea during the year of 2023 expect that there will be some wet pile taste throughout 2023, but will fade gradually as the tea ages. Remember pu-erh increases in palatability and complexity with age! In Chinese we refer to this as 越陈越香.

Different tea than previous years

"I was a big fan of Meng Song's "recipe". For the past 3 years, the taste and overall character of the tea has been consistent. Gradually they even improved. I drank a lot of it, I still have some in the archive. But 2023 strikes me as a completely different recipe. What was lost from it (complexity, balance), I find in other (more expensive) variants of ripe puerh YS. This year, I will not buy any more until the 2023 archive. I would be interested in the reasons: different source of material, cheaper material, different producer?"

Part 2 of the review above about the vital life force of this tea

"One thing that might be helpful to remember: because the chi of this tea, or any tea, despite being described as being potent, the sensation of the chi itself can be very subtle. You may want to consider sitting somewhere where you can be quiet and still before you partake."

Very potent chi, or vital life force!

"I ordered this tea because this site said it had a potent vital life force, or chi, also prana. I was not disappointed. It put me in a delightfully, relaxed, almost trance state that felt very nourishing, revitalizing, much different than caffeine. It was a sort of deep, embodied, meditation state. I've also noticed that for me teas with potent chi/qi may be felt upon the very first sip. Don't we all need a little extra vital life force?"

Amazing Everyday Ripe!

"Amazong tea for lovers of sweet, chocolate, cocoa and alcoholic notes in the ripe puerh. Despite of warnings of wet pile notes in the description above, I personally have not experienced any of this, also for my taste the tea was lack of bitterness and more sweet side. Great option for everyday drinking!"
