This is a premium blend that we've named "Ba Wang" 霸王, which means something like "Badass King." "Ba Wang" is a sort of neo-classical pu-erh tea cake title. After all, imitation can be the highest form of flattery! Although there are many cakes called "Ba Wang," I think you'll agree ours is among the best!

Composed of tea from 5 different villages (Menghai, Simao, and Lincang), this cake is bitter, sweet and chocolatey with warm cha qi, thick body and a long-lasting mouthfeel. We think you'll enjoy this tea and consider it worthy of adding to your collection for aging.

Reviews

One of my favorite brews.

"Still flavorful after a long session."

Robert P. (5/5)

Young, strong and tasty

"If you have tasted several Yunnan brand young ripes, there are some similarities, although with different flavour notes. This is a strong ripe, cocoa even coffe come to mind, a bittersweet end. Good energy, last many infusions A little bit lacking in complexity, maybe some aging will enhance this tea. A nice daily ripe"

Jose A. (4/5)

Great Puer Cake for the price

"Since I originally got this cake, it was very new and had that wo dui musty-ness. It’s since revealed much more and I would describe it as brownie-like with some sort of mushroom-ness"

Ian (5/5)

Very potent lots of levels of complexity

"As I reuse the leaves the rich low notes change to lighter just as interesting flavorful cups. I am a tea newbie and this one is quite an adventure. Thank you!"

Anna A. (5/5)

"It does what it says on the tin."

"This 2021 "Ba Wang" is a banger of a tea considering the price point. It punches way over it's weight class at $0.15/g. If "Peerless" is a benchmark, and "Green Miracle" is a close second, this one is definitely in the top 5 of my recent ripe buys. I was going to write a more elaborate review, but it looks like I concur with Scott's description. Pleasantly bitter cocoa with kind of a dark fruit sweetness like dates or maybe cherries? Tons of warm body Qi and super infusable. 5/5"

Bronson K. (5/5)

Worthy Successor!

"I am a big fan of the 2019 Ba Wang, and was not disappointed with this new release. It's a bit of a different animal but overall the impression is the same as the 2019. I'll be stocking on this one since the price is less than the 2019."

Q&A

I love this tea. I want to order more tea that is very dark and tastes like chocolate just like this tea. What do you recommend? For around the same price point.
