Bang Long village is a Meng Song area village in Menghai County of Xishuangbanna.  Meng Song area is northwest from Nan Nuo mountains and is a very famous tea producing area in Menghai.  Our Bang Long village tea cake is pressed from first flush of spring 2018 tea leaves harvest from 20 to 60 year old trees and bushes.

This tea is potent, with notes of stone fruit and wheat grass.  There is a thick green bouquet and a thick soupy character to the tea soup.  The tea is bitter, astringent, and sweet, with a long-lasting hui gan.  A powerful and complex tea that will improve in flavor and aroma with each passing year!

Staying Power

"Potent tea with lots of power over many steeps, but can be applied with skill to desired effect. Starts with a unique starchy taste and light sweetness. As steeps progress, flavor is lifted up by a combo of tingly astringency and steely bitterness that electrify the overall character before melting away to soft, mild huigan. Of note, mid-way through a session, I experience heat flashes in a unique way. Later steeps see the addition of citrus notes which keep things interesting to the last. My typical set-up is a 60ml gaiwan, 4-5g, water fresh from boil. 20s rinse, 9s, 10, 12, 16, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 1m, 2m. As things drop off, the late big pushes are worthwhile to bring out interest."

Saving up for a tong

"Every time I come back to this tea (once a week at the moment) I find more to love about it. It has a lovely sweetness which when flash steeped makes me think of buttery, fluffy, pancakes glazed with syrup and dusted lightly with icing sugar...but, as the previous reviewer noted it’s really delicious brewed a bit stronger. I think this tea would be really nice aged and every time I have a session with it I put another $ in my new savings account called “Bang Long Tong”"

Big tea!

"You know I can't resist brewing a brand new tea from the tea box on delivery day. 2018 YS Bang Long sheng is something else. The first steep was sweet and hay forward. Within the second steep it opened right up to a giant mouthfeel and bitter forward. It's such a big tea I am liking a 30 second steep because it whirlwinds through your mouth rather than being delicate. The nuances can make a nice sweeter tea but this does something magical when made thicker."
