Jin Jun Mei growing wild and unmanaged in the Wu Yi Mountains of Fujian.  This Jin Jun Mei grows in the same areas as Wu Yi's famous Rock Oolongs and has that same mineral sweetness and flower aroma.  Being traditionally processed Jin Jun Mei but from a biodiverse environment gives this tea a strong character both in terms of taste and overall feeling.   Strong full mouth feeling, viscous, and expansive.  Notes of dark chocolate that comes and goes, mineral and sweet with some floral and peppery notes.  Difficult to describe the experience of drinking this tea!  Just try it!

Recommend brewing with 85-90C water and using very short infusions at first.

Hi big tea shop! I

"Hi big tea shop! I am very satisfied with timely delivery and also all in all with your website and it's fantastic inventory. What I can not find is more in depth about the teas (since I am a novice) and if there are teas that actuall help you relax and help you to go to sleep. I work late and have difficulties to go to sleep. Yours sincerely, Kim Hartman"

Unremarkable and weak

"Unfortunately I didn't find any positive sides to this JJM. Even without comparing it with more expensive ones (which are on a whole different league), it left me unimpressed and with only one word in mind: tasteless. Slightly minaral, somewhat malty, without body and very light. I used 3 grams for 90 ml, it didn't improve with infusions."

A very good JJM. Rose and sweet fruit flavours with syrup mouthfeel. Challenging to brew.

"Not a typical purchase, but I bought this premium 2019 JJM because it was an exceptionally good year for this expensive black tea type. A very sweet, rose petal taste. The complex flavour as noted in the Y.S. tasting note above also has sticky blueberry and pungent tropical flower aromas. Something to enjoy in the winter. The viscous syrup has a note of tannic dryness at the finish as the wildness comes through. Brewing the super-fine leaves was challenging because getting the luxurious feel without astringency was a delicate balance: The suggested low temperatures helped but infusions still needed accurate timing. These were small negative points and only they add to the pleasure as it is always nice to think there is an even better tea out there. Thank you Y.S."

Excellent Spring 2019

"This is an excellent jin jun mei. Enjoyably complex but clean and smooth -- hits the dark chocolate, floral, mineral, and starchy notes in an interesting way. Everyone who sampled it remarked that it is a special tea."

2019 spring - awesome

"Really good JJM. One of my favourites. Complex, clean tasting, floral, gentle sweet, grainy."

Strong Fennel

"This sample was spring 2019. The un-brewed leaves had the aroma of a loaf of what Americans call white bread with a hint of fennel. The fennel taste became dominate in the brewed liquor. It was brewed Gung-fu style blending three successive steeps into a larger cup. It took a couple of cups to get used to the flavor. The fennel flavor was so dominant that I was a little surprised that it was not mentioned in earlier reviews."

Sweet fruity notes, complex tannins and malty notes

"There are many things going on in this tea which I enjoyed and re-ordered a larger quantity. Sweet fruity notes, slight bitterness evolves as the tannins reveals themselves with progressive infusions. I noticed a hidden flavor which I described as malty."

Very complex

"Great tea with a complex taste. Each flavor of it is distinctive. You can compare it to classical music played that you listen in the concert hall - you can hear each instrument distinctively. Strong with pepper touch. 8"
