Ta Ku Hou village is a small village near Phoenix town just to the west at an altitude of 1350 meters.  This is one of highest altitude villages in the Wu Dong mountainous area.  Our Single Tree Ta Ku Hou Dan Cong is grown by one family and is from a single old tree that is more than $150 years old

The tea itself is medium leaf, dry leaf is dark in color and when brewed is typically green with some brown.  The tea has been hand-picked and processed at each stage, and took more than a month of labor to complete.   The taste is very vibrant and complex with notes of fruit and eucalyptus.  There is a slight bitter which accentuates the fruity sweetness this tea delivers.  It's got a strong mouth-feel, cha qi and is very infusable.

A premium small-batch Dan Cong that imparts the depth and wisdom of this incredible tradition to those fortunate enough to try it.

Amazing tea, this is a gem, one of the best teas on YS

"Smell: very vibrant, roasted fruits Tasting notes: subtle interplay of different tastes, subtly smoky-woody, fruity sweet-bitterness, coating mouthfeel. The roasted smokiness disappears after multiple brews resulting in a pleasantly bitter floral taste. After many brews (15+) a lot of the floral intensity gives way to a mouthful of sweetness. Fun to brew for 20+ brews 1st brew: amazing roasted + intense fruity One of the reviews, spot on: I feel like it transports me up to the very soil this tree is rooted in. I can feel the essence of the mountain, I feel the moss growing on the tree, I feel the mineral composition of the soil in the sensation that this tea leaves on my palate after a good session. 5g/100ml, 99C, 15s->5s->5s"

meh

"Just kidding - this tea is awesome. I like it a lot, and I agree with Matt's review below, he is spot on with the aroma of pure cotton candy coming off the bottom of an empty cup, especially in the first 6 cups. If there ever was such a thing as "old-world style" dan cong, this would be it. It has a stronger roast and deeper oxidation than most, if not all, of the other dan cong in the YS catalog. This is the perfect bridge between Fenghuang and Wuyi oolongs, so if you're into high-end yancha and are looking for some good dan cong to add to your collection, this is definitely it. To be frank, this is probably not the tea for somebody who hasn't explored other dan cong. You might be disappointed... this one is a little harder to brew than most, and the flavor profile is pretty nuanced, so to enjoy this in its full capacity requires some practice to be able to pick up all of the subtleties that old trees convey. I thoroughly enjoy the second half of this tea, it's really clean and I feel like it transports me up to the very soil this tree is rooted in. I can feel the essence of the mountain, I feel the moss growing on the tree, I feel the mineral composition of the soil in the sensation that this tea leaves on my palate after a good session. There must be a phrase for this, something that captures this quality in authentic, high-end dan cong... hmm. I always pull at least 12 cups off each session with this tea. The first 8-10 are flavorful but for me it's all about what happens when the tea has given up all of its flavonoids and phenolics and there's nothing obscuring the essence of this tree. The sensation on the palate is one thing, but the effect overall is unforgettable."

Amazing flavor and aroma

"Bought this on a whim as a treat since its fairly expensive relative to the normal Dan Cong I buy, and I wasn't disappointed. 5g/100mL, water just off boil poured down the side of the gaiwan (not over the leaves). Flash steeps at first, then a little longer after 4-5 steeps. Somewhat subtle taste, floral and sweet. The aroma of an empty cup though is pure cotton candy. A slight bitterness emerges in later steeps, which starts to bring out a fairly strong hui gan/cooling sensation in the mouth. Very oily mouthfeel, coating the back of the throat. I'm really surprised by this tea, and its made me question how I usually brew other dan congs."
