Our "Wild Huang Zhi Xiang" grows wild at 950 meters of altitude (Middle Mountain) above Da An Village. This comes from a small stand of trees that grow naturally and are more than 40 years old.

Huang Zhi Xiang Dan Cong (黄枝香 ) Oolong is a unique varietal of Dan Cong grown in Phoenix Village (and Ling Tou village) in the Wu Dong mountain area of Guangdong. Huang Zhi Xiang literally means "Yellow Gardenia Flower Aroma", because traditionally this tea when processed and lightly roasted will give off a strong gardenia aroma with an accompanying floral taste. Our traditional one family Huang Zhi Xiang Dan Cong is naturally grown, painstakingly processed by hand into mao cha and then roasted 3 times over the course of 3 weeks to bring out the aroma and strong taste.

The tea has a strong pungent floral taste, honey sweetness and a balanced vegetal astringency and bitterness to counter the sweetness. The result is a mouth watering delight that permeates through the mouth and throat with long lasting flavor and lubricating mouth-feel. Strong cha qi. This tea is very complex and probably not for someone seeking a sweet and easy oolong.

An incredibly unique tea, grown naturally and carefully processed to preserve it's lovely character.

"Great tea only thing I dislike is buying so little"

Strong Cha Qi!

"This is a delicious Dan Cong. Keep in mind that I drank this tea in 2023, and I'm reviewing the Spring 2021 version... which means it kept it's flavour for over 2 years and still tastes amazing! Stone fruit aroma and taste. Highly recommend! Also has a strong cha qi...."

very impressive cha qi

"I purchased some of this a while back and thought it was an amazing dan cong. Although I may have forgotten to review it back then, that's okay because this tea and all of its glorious attributes have stuck with me over time. It's hard to forget an experience like this. Much like the aftertaste of a good dan cong lingers persistently over a long period of time, so too do my thoughts about this tea. I still remember it as though I drank it yesterday. Before drinking this tea, one of the first thoughts I had was: if this tea tastes like honey and flowers, what's the difference between this and a Mi Lan? The answer came to me as soon as I rinsed the dry leaf with cool water. There was an explosive bouquet of gardenia and rose petal notes that was brought together by a thick body of coconut milk and sugarcane-like sweetness. In the cup, the sugarcane-like sweetness very quickly melts away into what is most certainly an orange blossom honey note. This is reinforced with tons and tons of complex florals which waft up from each brew to tingle the nose. Strong floral notes with oily and resinous qualities stay embedded in each cup as you work your way through the session. The difference between this and a good Mi Lan is that a good Mi Lan would lean more heavily into the body, texture, and that overall sensation of your tongue being gripped. This tea leans more heavily into the floral aromatics, and these create their own electrifying sensation on the palate. While these two teas have a lot in common there is also enough separating them. I brewed up a couple of Mi Lan's back to back with this tea and found myself appreciating the differences even more. 5 grams of leaf in a 100mL teapot gave back 10 to 12 awesome infusions. The orange blossom honey note is interesting - besides being a total dan cong nutjob, I'm also a total honey nutjob. I have a collection of extremely rare, unusual, and top-tier honeys that would make Winnie The Pooh think he was in heaven. To say this tea smells, and tastes, like California-grown orange blossom honey is an understatement - they are pretty much indistinguishable. Cha qi is sublime - definitely one of the deepest and most complex of any, with a lot of strength and grace. You can feel the wild nature of this tea in your bloodstream."

Excellent quality dan cong

"Rich and complex aroma. Decent dan cong for weekend brewing"

The 2019 crop was some

"The 2019 crop was some of the best tea I've ever drunk. This year's is a bit disappointing comparatively - it takes a _lot_ more leaf to replicate the intensity of flavor, and it's less forgiving of higher temperature water - but even so, it's my favorite tea in the cupboard right now!"

High price-ratio dan cong

"A creamy-fruty side of Dacong ( like duck shit), high fragrance and lasting taste in mouth. 10 steeps in gongfu stile and still worth it."

amazing tea

"I don't know how to describe the taste and smell of this tea. It is extremely rich in various pleasant and complex aromas. Some original and unusual. This is not just tea but art. Is it expensive? No, it's not. You are paying for something unusual, not for ordinary tea."

Przemyslaw C. (5/5)

Outstanding

"A trully unique oolong tea, I am glad I tried this! My tasting notes: round profile, complex, with fruit/honey tones; mouth watering, slight astringency; sweet aftertaste. Will be getting more on the next order."

Apostolos (5/5)

Beautiful, rich flavours.

"This tea has a lovely roasted note that doesn't overwhelm the underlying fruitiness. Your initial blast is of honey and dried fruit and orange blossom. On the tongue, it has a slight mineral astringency that keeps you coming back for more and a nice seaweedy savouriness that makes the mouth water. A long, rich and warming tea, perfect for cold winter days (or any other day!)."
