Entirely wild arbor tea from early spring 2017! The tea leaves for this tea cake were picked from 20 to 60 years old tea trees growing wild in the Da Xue Shan (Big Snow Mountain) area of Mengku.   Big Snow Mountain is a high altitude area that tops out at 2700 meters above sea level.  The tea we used for this production is from an altitude of about 1800 meters on the southwest slope of Big Snow Mountain (west of Mengku town).  Big Snow Mountain of Mengku although having the same name as the Yong De Big Snow Mountain area is in fact not the same and quite distinct.

Teng Tiao "藤条茶" is a unique Assamica natural hybrid that grows in Mengku County (Lincang) and Jinggu (Puer/Simao) and has long spindly leaves.  Despite growing in the same general area of Big Snow Mountain in Mengku this tea has a unique look and taste.  Compare with our 2017 Big Snow Mountain production available here.

An incredible value pu-erh which is both worthy to drink now or for the long-term. Clean and pure!

Each cake is stone-pressed by traditional method and dried with low temperature air drying.

Brewing with care!

"A wonderful mellow, creamy taste. I had best results brewing at lower temperature. It is a taste I keep wanting to come back to. Delicate and delicious."

Always Smooth and Sweet

"I suppose it depends on how you brew it but this tea is always smooth and sweet for me. This is a great tea to ease into the day with. Besides its herbiness (if that is a word) it has a slight roasted nut taste. And at three years old it seems to be aging well. At its current price it is definitely a bargain."

Ages well

"I bought this when it came out as one of my first cakes. I didn't like it as much as I thought (it's easy to over-extract), so this has been sitting on my shelf. I broke some off yesterday and it was better than I remember. It's still fairly easy for this to be very astringent so use short steeps. I brewed two cups and went upstairs for a bit; when I came down I could smell the tea before I even got back into my kitchen. Very pleasant. I will be checking back on this tea as it ages further."

Quality Material & Perfect for Aging!

"Sometimes the development of a Sheng really can change a lot. As I wrote my review for this very Raw the first time there wasn't much sweetness to be found inside of its profile but now months later it is totally the opposite. It is so fascinating that even a couple of months are able to change a Pu-erh dramatically! This raw Sheng really build his home around a lot of different types of vegetables. Especially within the steaming scenting part there is a lot to discover. Starting with cauliflower, artichokes, broccoli followed by further bouquets of carrots and a fine mix of chestnuts and sweet potato. There is definitely more of a bitterness tart layer to it as with most of the other Lincang samples. Taste-wise this tartness is definitely something different within this buddy here with a more peppery sharp tone to it but also a certain flowery bitterness of dandelion and gentian. There is definitely a strong corn juice within its profile (now comes the Updated part) plus a nice gently layer of Asian pear, slightly hints of honey melon and cherry with final tiny moments of blueberry. There is also quite a stony and mineral taste to it. Another thing inside of it that's high quality-ish is the saponin level - so many bubbles and they stay at their spot nearly as long as you need time finishing this cup of Teng Tiao Cha. Besides its elegant buttery liquor this buddy is coating your inner mouth section with a fury layer. It's still not my most favorite one of the Lincang 2017 selection but definitely great material and nice character for aging process. Solid Affordable Raw

"I cannot find a better raw pu-erh for under $40 than this one! 10+ steeps and tea drunk. Buttery and thick... nice kuwei and solid aroma."

Ning W. (5/5)

Buttery geranium

"This is a nice tea, particularly for the price. It has very young character, complete with a present vegetal component (roasted corn style, i'm not picking up on any brassica vegetal character here) and a tiny bit of nuttiness, but there's a distinct but subtle geranium floral character. One thing is for sure: this is a clean and pure tasting tea. No off notes. It will pack a punch if steeped harder, though, as there is definitely some bitterness present."
