Spring 2016 harvested tea leaves that are 100% sourced from Lao Man'E Village (Bu Lang Mountains) tea from older tea trees.  Hai Lang has long been active in Lao Man'E, Lao Ban Zhang and other Bu Lang villages.  In 2008 he produced a Lao Ban Zhang and Lao Man'e blend called Lao Ban'e that has since become a classic in China and abroad.

Being pure Lao Man'e this tea is a bitter-fest.  Not only is there strong bitterness, there is a strong aroma and very strong cha qi.  The tea leaves are burly, and thick and go many many infusions before losing their flavor.

If you are looking to understand what pure Lao Man'e tea from older trees can be, then this is something worth trying.  If you are looking for something to age for the long term as an alternative or complement to Lao Ban Zhang, then Lao Man'e is the natural choice!

Packs a punch!

"Unintentionally sampled, which I was grateful for the opportunity. Tried to go gentle, to keep the bitterness at bay. I took 5g to 7 flash steeps in a 60mL gaiwan and then switch to grandpa style, which was a bit of a mistake, because the first of three (!) grandpa infusions was intensely bitter. Flavors and aroma are lovely green qualities, underripe lemon, briny green olives, freshly cut flowers. The bitterness punches through in the finish with forward plant-y green bite, it's not an overly coarse or difficult bitterness, but it's not entirely the lovely minty, mouth-watering returning bitterness either, somewhere in the middle. I imagine this may morph with time. The qi keeps you in your seat quickly, face-numbing and feeling like stone, happy and glowing. Excellent, excellent tea, with great qualities and duration, but still, unfortunately, due to the market hype, maybe not the best value, but that should be fairly obvious."
