These little purple buds come from the "ye sheng" varietal of camellia tea trees which grow wild in tropical Dehong. These sun-dried buds are in a very limited supply and are in high demand among pu-erh tea connoisseurs due to their richness and complexity! They have a fresh and fruity flavor similar to other varietals of sun-dried buds, but they also have a deep and robust aroma and aftertaste which are very reflective of their "ye sheng" origins!

Great starting point for a pu-erh noob!

"I'm still new to raw pu-erh, but grabbed 50 grams of this and a 25 gram sample of a fancier tea cake and 1) they're both super good, 2) to a pu-erh noob they're not _super_ different—both have a nice mellow, slightly tart flavor, totally different from any other style of tea I've tried. I like the simplicity of just buying a bag of loose tea, though!"

Nice Mellow Raw Pu Erh

"Getting lots of steeps out of these dense buds. Liquor has a rich, fresh almost white tea quality, while also having undertones from some of the more pungent flavors of pu erh like minerals, woodiness, and compost, but nothing approaching a ripe pu erh. Give it a good 5-10 second wash, first steep is undrinkable it’s so bitter……"

Goes for a very long

"Goes for a very long time, 15 steeps for me. Excellent taste in my opinion, sweet and fruity, with the usual pu'erh funk but without the usual astringency of young pu'erh. One of my favourite teas of all time, though I prefer the white version of this same variety. But there's no point in comparing them, if you prefer white tea over pu'erh you will like this one better and viceversa."

Packed full of flavor

"A little goes a long way. This is full of flavor, used about 5-6 grams in my 150ml gongfu. Got about 8 good steeps before the flavor started to fade. Very sweet"

All the different bud teas are great!

"I like it! It reminds me of the White version of this tea, but with some bitterness and maybe raspberry. It's bitterness isn't quite the dark chocolate bitterness you get in some black teas, it's different, more foresty. Hard to explain. Give it a try. Best steeped with high amount of leaf, very hot water, but short steeps."

I don't like pu-erh

"I was hoping I would enjoy this. I did not. Definitely pu-erh. So, to me, absolutely disgusting. Tastes and smells like barnyard Again, I have never liked a pu-erh. Was hoping I would enjoy but nope nope nope"

Interesting tea

"A mild and flowery pu erh. I like it."

one note

"tastes similar to low-med quality young raw puerh. ok overall and decent mouth feel. if you just want something to drink it's okay otherwise i'd get something else. most of the tea i got ended up in a hojicha blend which was good, but pretty much all lighter teas taste good roasted. the rest i'll save for a year or so to see if it's better with some age"

It's like "sweet ya bao" without the sweetness

"Very nice if you want something with more of a kick compared to "sweet ya bao". Quite delicious."

Q&A

Hi, I’ve never tried ti brew buds before, any recommendations how?
I recommend 90C water and short short steeps. It over-brewed it can be very bitter. You need to go easy on this one.
