This is a cake composed entirely of golden buds ripe pu-erh tea. Golden Bud (aka Jin Ya 金芽) is a fine tippy grade of ripe that is unique from gong ting and golden needle (jin zhen). It's typically very golden and and is comprised primarily of buds. The flavor is smooth, creamy, sweet, and fruity, with a slightly bitter dark chocolate after-finish.

Harvested from Lincang (Mengku) Spring 2017 tea leaves and then expertly wet piled in Menghai town in a small tea factory. The taste and aroma will improve gradually over the next decade or more. As the wet pile taste dissipates and the unique delicate character of this tea reveals itself, it will become one of the most unique and enjoyable ripe pu-erhs in your collection!

My son's favorite. Taste like

"My son's favorite. Taste like hemlock and leather. Very earthy aroma and all around grounding."

Smooth and sweet!

"This is such a smooth and rich tea. Creamy in the mouth and very sweet after-finish. Nice energy kick! Very enjoyable ripe that will only get better with age!"

Not sure yet - Needs more time imo

"Cake is looking beautiful, very "golden". But there's quite some off-aroma imo, esp. in the taste. Apart from that. the taste is quite earthy and chalky, somewhat basic and pretty simple overall. I'm missing complexity, maybe some fruit/sweetness or anything. Overall I think this has potential, yes, but definitely needs a few years of aging as of now (03/2019)."

"The order came in and immediately my partner and I were on the way to a tiny house in the mountains. When I first opened this cake it had a pine needley taste that tasted unfinished. Though my partner did like it. Though coming back over a few months it just got better and better and eventually I only wanted to drink it! It was dark and creamy. Would recommend waiting some time before drinking but a definite good cake!"

A really solid shou and beginner friendly!

"Usually, for me, shou ranges from 'liquid garbage' to 'meh, I can finish the session' but this one gets a solid 'pretty damn decent'. Even though it's still very young, the wet pile notes are minimal and steep out early. It's sweet and smooth, with a viscosity that I believe will only thicken with time; and most importantly there's some complexity that I usually find lacking in shou. There's earth, minerality, petrichor, and some hints of red fruits and chocolates, et al. A really solid shou!"

The tea that changed my mind about young shou being undrinkable.

Cream, Fruit and Spice

"This is such a unique and comfortable shou puerh tea! Oily, cream, rich, mouth-watering with sweet fruit and spice after finish."

Amazing and High Quality

"Although I got a bit of a wet pile taste, the tea was amazing to say the least; it was rich and I can imagine it age very well and becoming very sweat. This tea would make a worthy investment."
