An unusual tea in terms of it's origins.  Yunnan-grown pu-erh was pressed in Yunnan and then packaged and sold under the "Chongqing Tuo" Brand (a sub-brand of the CNNP Chongqing Branch).

The tea was aged in Chongqing for 4 years before being brought to Kunming and stored there.  Overall, the taste is that of a semi-aged Kunming (dry) storage raw pu-erh.  Compression of the tuo is medium-tight, but despite this the tea has an aged taste and aroma but does not sport a particularly dark tea soup.

The taste is smooth with little or no bitterness/astringency, instead it's sweet and spicy with a floral and fruit after-taste.  Good body, rich and thick in the mouth.

Quite some bitterness for the age

"Even though I'm trying it as 23 years aged tea it still has some bitterness to it similar to what I'd expect for younger ones. In the aftertaste it has some funky spiciness too. These two aspects differentiate it from most other shengs of similar age."

Very interesting, not sure I like it

"This is my first time drinking something from the Chongqing brand. It's a very different raw Pu Erh tea. It is very smooth but has this weird mushroomy taste. It's a bit too funky and different for my palette."

Hot and humid storage revelation

"After 6 months of natural storage in Singapore, this tea has changed substantially its character from when it first arrived (tasting strong but reserved). Now, I get distinct floral aromas wafting enticingly from the wet leaves. The brews reveal sweet date and honey notes from the get go. Like!"

Mushroom soup!

"Awfull first impression. Harsh and with a bad energy. That lasted for quiet a few session (actually i 2 different countries), but after another change in geography, and water (arctic Norway now), I do find this one very enjoyable. Balanced, with a wonderfull mushroomy taste. I could consider bying this one again!"

Aged Bargain Sheng!

"I got this on a whim and was not expecting much from an "aged" tea in this price range! Boy was I wrong! This is some tasty sheng. It reminds me quite a bit of a 2003 Xiaguan Jia Ji tuo that I drink now and then for something special. Still nice strong taste, dried fruit, some bitterness. Mouth feeling is excellent! Steeps 10 times or more."

Different

"Not quite like other puerh teas. A fun change of pace. A bit middle of the road. No astringency or bitterness but a bit light in flavor, too. Honey like notes on the end starting a few steeps in, with a thick body that isn't quite matched by any heavy flavor. Definitely an enjoyable tea that gets a nice spice in the middle steeps."
