The strainer is fused to the main part of the cha hai, it's not removable.

Great for a pair or small family

"I like glass cha hais with built in strainer and use it for several last years. Usually they are rather small and suitable for one person, so for family use I tried to use larger ones. And among several ones I have tried, this is the best one. It is made of rather thick glass - at least it looks like and weight a bit more than others. This thicker glass makes me believe it will be harder to break it accidentally. Also I like wooden handle and design in general."
