The Bao Yan 宝焰 sub-brand of Xiaguan (aka Tibetan Flame) was originally developed to sell Xiaguan bricks and mushroom tuo to the Tibetan market in Yunnan, Sichuan, Qinghai, Gansu, and Tibet. The early releases of the Bao Yan brand began in the 1960's and were just raw bricks and mushroom tuo (jin cha). After the invention of ripe pu-er in the 1970's Xiaguan finally perfected it's ripe wet piling method and began to offer Baoyan branded mushroom tuo, bricks and then later cakes.

Xiaguan "Bao Yan" (aka Tibetan Flame or Holy Flame) ripe teas are robust, earthy and sweet with a camphor aroma.  Very smooth and enjoyable ripe tea that can be aged more if you'd like, or enjoyed now!

Дуже добре

"Дуже добре. За смаком 4 бали з 5-ти. За співвідношенням якість/ціна 10 з 10-ти. Купую вже другий рік поспіль."

Experimenting with different dark tea styles

"This is the strongest smelling puerh tea that I have tried so far. The dry leaves have a pungent, barny scent. The tea is more mellow than the scent would indicate. I need to try it again and also experiment with preparations."

Christopher S. (4/5)

Great drinking tea!

"Well balanced and more importantly well stored quality Pu-ehr tea. Earthy notes that you love in a good tea without any hints of fishieness that come with lower quality teas."

Johnnathan D. (5/5)

Very average pu'er

"Very average pu'er. Earthy, smokey, deep and mellow. Has a lingering menthol aftertaste, but without the cooling effect. The leaves are about 50% whole leaves (~0. 5in long), 25% broken, and 25% dust/flakes. The reason it gets a 4/5 rather than a 3/5 is because of its value."

Great Value for Money

"This tea punches above its grade, with very good value for money. It's a bit smoky for me, but I should have expected a smoky flavor from a tea with "flame" in its name. The flavor isn't super rich, but considering the price and short aging time, it has good depth. I'm interested in seeing how this would develop as it ages."

Katie G. (5/5)

It is still great

"I am not a big tea-expert just drink this tea for years because it is (still) great. Although I do not add yak butter, salt and other ingredients to make almost a soup out of it as it goes in Tibet originally but even just drink it as a tea gives energy as the flame in the cold night. It has arrived a bit faster than I expected it is also really great."

Sandor V. (5/5)

Better than the $70 brick!

"This was the free gift I chose and it was better than the other two ripe cakes I bought. Its complex, smokey and savoury and delightful. One of my current favs."
