Mutton Fat Jade Porcelain is a unique porcelain style from Dehua (Fujian) that is aesthetically pleasing but also has excellent heat retention and is completely non-porous.  The look of Mutton Fat Jade Porcelain 羊脂玉 is startling and pleasing with a matte look.  It's not a glazing technique, the entire piece is the same material inside and out.  The matte finish is also hydrophobic so water quickly moves off the outside.

Mutton Fat Jade Porcelain is excellent for teas that benefit from excellent heat retention when brewing.  We have found it brews these teas the best:

  • Oolong Tea (Tie Guan Yin, Taiwan Oolongs, Dan Cong, Wu Yi Rock Oolongs)
  • Pu-erh Tea (Ripe and Raw)
  • Black Tea (if brewing Jin Jun Mei or other smaller leaf black teas use 85-90C water)
  • White Tea (all types)
  • Hei Cha (all types)

Volume: 90ml (+/- 10ml)

Each teapot comes in a plush gift box.

Made with a combination of hand and molding technique.

Nice teapot for solo sessions

"Teapot is a tad small, wish it were 120ml but I can live with the 90ml. The fit is very nice, no leaking from lid even upside down. The finish is nice matte and feels great to touch. My only complaint is that the knob on the lid is kind of shiny for some reason, not matching the rest of the pot. We’ll see how it holds up long term and if it gets too dirty looking because of the white. But so far I love this little pot."

Just great

"This lil guy is beautifully made, nicely proportioned, pours like a champ. Lots of gong fu sesh with white, yellow, and oolong and love it all. Great little piece."

Excellent Teapot with one unfortunate flaw

"I am conflicted on how to review this. First off the good: the material and craftsmanship are excellent. The pour is fast and smooth, a good 8" of glass rod before it breaks up. There is just one flaw that I am coming across that makes using this teapot frustrating. The ledge that protrudes down on the lid angles in slightly. Maybe this is to help with easier fitment, but when you put the lid on it acts like a pump pushing any small floating leaves in the way of the lid and it doesn't close all the way. It is difficult to clear the little leaves out of the way while steeping without risking burning my fingers and letting the heat escape. This is not a problem for larger leaf teas, but small/broken up teas such as hei cha make lid closing difficult. I appear to be the only person to encounter this as none of the other reviews note it, but I wanted to make sure my experience was noted."

DeHua Mutton Fat pot

"Beautiful little pot from DeHua. Excellent quality you come to expect from that region."

Excellent little pot

"Excellent pot, the lid fits perfectly, and it's a great size for making tea for one in gong fu style."

Logan K. (5/5)

great versatile little pot of great quality

"The heat retention for such a small vessel is remarkable. Brews almost everything from white tea to oolong, sheng-pu, dancong an rock oolongs. Only japanese greens are a bit tricky to get the usual results. The lid fits almost perfectly/seals completely (pressing on the knob is stopping the flow). The flow of my teapot is rather fast and extremely smooth. The stream is almost like stick of clear glass. The teapot arrived securely packed in a nice little box, together with some purple variety white tea, which one I really can recommend to pair with this pot."

Great teapot, the material is

"Great teapot, the material is very attractive and it feels like polished stone. The pour is slow and not very drippy."

Faith K. (5/5)

Excellent

"Excellent teapot, very pleasant to the touch, especially when it is warm. Masterfully made, this is the first time I've seen a porcelain teapot where the lid fits perfectly."
