This is a pure assamica varietal (same as is used to make pu-erh tea) that was plucked during the first flush of spring (April) and then processed into a lovely full-bodied black tea!

The taste is fruity and sweet with the slightest floral astringency.  It can be steeped 8+ times gong fu style!  Stimulating and enjoyable tea that will deepen in character with age!   Just keep sealed in the pouch to age it!

Mei Zi Qing is a small village in the remote Yong De county (Lincang).  Mei Zi Qing village tea trees range in age from 40 to 150 years growing at an altitude of 1700 meters.

We also offer raw pu-erh tea dragon balls from this same village here!

Great tea! Absolutely excited about

"Great tea! Absolutely excited about quality and variety of selection."

a joyful gift

"This tea was a gift from Scott for my orders... Although the smell is faint and doesn't remind me of anything, this tea changes from infusion to infusion. The first infusion: like drinking an aged dark white tea, the same flavour is present in the other infusions, even if it is increasingly weak. The next time you infuse it, there is a distinct sweet taste, as if I could smell condensed milk... The last infusions are dominated by the typical Assamica black tea flavour with a slight fruity note. Taken as a whole, this tea is like drinking an excellent slightly sweet and fruity Assam black tea with milk, but without the added milk. It's a very enjoyable tea that can withstand many short infusions."

Especially delicious and unique

"This tea has a beautiful intriguing flavor. Every time we make a pot we think how good it is. It is fruity and floral but substantial as well. Very good tea!"

Very nice assam. I don't

"Very nice assam. I don't like milk in tea it would work. Dark liquor, malty like an assam but not bitter"

complex & satisfying

"This is really good hong cha with a complex flavor profile. It has some fruity & floral sweetness upfront that works its way down to more earthy & brothy notes as you continue to brew it. Cha qi is pleasantly strong and deep. This tea will wake you up and get you moving for sure! Rum, raisins, tobacco, peat, malt, mushrooms, chocolate, raspberry, roses, there's a lot going on here and a lot that can be picked apart layer by layer. This is excellent for gongfu, but also responds well to Western-style brewing. I found this tea to maintain an exquisite mouthfeel across the whole session. It's very well-rounded and the depth of flavor is maintained even in the final brew. All of the individual flavors stand out on their own but also come together in each cup to form a cohesive experience that is truly exceptional. An experience this good has the potential to change your perceptions of what high-end hong cha can be. Don't sleep on this one - try some and prepare to have your mind blown!"

Not my favorite

"I ordered a whole smash of black and oolong teas about a year ago that's pretty much gone now, and just ordered another big assortment to keep me through 2023. This tea is one I still have around, and it's one that I clearly didn't favor. I found it to be strong and dark, with good tannin and full body, but not much else -very little in the way of flavor and aroma, from what I can assess at least. The dry leaves look impressive and tippy, and they may be building unrealistic expectations when I brew it."

I am really enjoying this

"This tea has great flavor. It is one of my favorite black teas at this time. I haven't been drinking teas too long, so take that for what it is worth."

Enjoing this tea

"Enjoyed this one, recommended for black tea lovers. Rather classic profile with added flowers and malty flavours. Good balance!"

Black tea taste with puerh cha qi!

"Spring black tea made with puerh material ! 🤯 Semi sweet chocolate covered raspberries, sprinkled with malt powder and scented with flowers. Yeah, this is an interesting one, both in aroma and flavor. I'm drinking it in my room with the air conditioner on, but I'm sweating haha! The cha qi is real, I'm zoomed out, hyper but extremely relaxed at the same time. And another thing, this tea lasts forever, I got about 15 good infussions oit of it, amazing! I used to like black teas, but with all the unique ones released by Yunnan Sourcing, now I love em'! I feel like I'm rediscovering black teas. Used 5g of leaf in my 100ml gaiwan and 95 degree water."
