Entirely old arbor tea from early spring 2018! The tea leaves for this tea cake were picked from 100 to 200 years old tea trees growing wild in the Da Xue Shan (Big Snow Mountain) area of Mengku.   Big Snow Mountain is a high altitude area that tops out at 2700 meters above sea level.  The tea we used for this production is from an altitude of about 1900 meters on the southern slope of Big Snow Mountain (west of Mengku town).  Big Snow Mountain of Mengku although having the same name as the Yong De Big Snow Mountain area is in fact not the same and quite distinct.

This year's Big Snow Mountain is composed of leaves harvested from naturally growing trees tha grow in a pure and unadulterated environment.  The taste is strong and pungent, astringent and bitter, sweet and floral.  The taste after drinking stays in the mouth and throat for a long time.  The cha qi is surprisingly strong for such a young tea.  If you are looking for a single estate raw pu-erh to age then this is an excellent choice!

An incredible value pu-erh which is both worthy to drink now or for the long-term.  Clean and pure!

Each cake is stone-pressed by traditional method and dried with low temperature air drying.

This is from a completely different part of Big Snow Mountain and from much older trees than our much cheaper (but excellent) 2017 Big Snow Mountain cake!

Each tong of 7 cakes is wrapped in bamboo leaf!

Big and balanced

"I've brewed through half of my cake in under a month. I'll never how this will age. The taste comes subtly, but smoothly. No one aspect stands out, but rather, I get fragments of a big, round, vegetal sweetness, spliced with a 'seltzer' mineral savoriness which enters softly, perfectly balanced and supported by a growing astringent power, filling my palate. I typically brew in a 200ml gaiwan using about 10g of leaves. First steep of 20s to rinse, but I wouldn't dare to toss it - it is a quiet intro of good things to come. Give or take -10, 12, 14, 18, 24, 45s go the steeps from there, depending on how much leaf. Over a liter of tea and halfway through - the Qi. This was the first raw I got 'lit up' by. Like the taste, hard to describe, but easy to recognize. I became aware of the moment I was in like the eye in a storm of thoughts. Quiet, from the inside. As I sat, regarding this sensation, I also realized the potent Huigan growing in the back of my throat, like my phlegm had been infused by honey. This only heightened and interplayed with the sweet sheng aroma wafting from the wet leaves. Simply wonderful."

Complex Tea with Power

"Tasted in the January 2019: This tea opens with a sweet vegetal aroma on the wet leaves. The taste of the first steep is sweet with a hint of fruit and some starchy flavor. This flavor transforms to a sweet orchid like taste with a good aftertaste and some noticable relaxing Qi."

Beautifully floral, vegetal, pungent...

"This tea quickly became my favorite 2018 spring sheng from YS. I've thoroughly enjoyed the several cakes that I purchased, though this tea has grabbed my attention most due to itsexceptionally aromatic quality and clean profile. The processing was done with care, which is evident just looking at the tea, but even more so with the rinse; The aroma that pours out of the gaiwan is intoxicating. The flavor of the tea is wonderful and active (little tingling action), good body feels, and it has lasting power. It also has settled into itself gracefully over the past ~year, without losing any aroma, only gaining a bit of complexity. I'm looking forward to drinking this tea for years to come."
