We are proud to offer a Certified Organic Yellow Tea from Yunnan.  This tea was grown in the area of Simao and was harvested in March.

This is a Classic 1 leaf to 1 bud plucked Yellow Tea (1芽1叶黄茶) made from a 50/50 blend Yunkang #10, and Xue Ya #100 varietals growing at and altitude 1300 meters (4300 feet) on the southern slope Ma Wei Mountain (just west of Pu'Er City).  Fresh leaves from both varietals are picked and blended together before processing.  The blend of the two varietals gives a balanced complex taste and increases the number of steeps that the tea can be brewed.

The processing is similar to black tea with sun withering, rolling, oxidization, and finally drying.  The main difference between the Yellow tea and Black tea processing done by our organic tea growers is the sun withering stage and the oxidization stage are quite a bit shorter for the Yellow tea.  You will notice the dry leaf of the Yellow tea is tending to be more grey and less gold as compared to our Pure Bud Black Tea, and the brewed tea soup is more yellow-gold (as opposed to gold-orange) and the brewed leaves are more greenish.

Our Yunnan Yellow Tea is incredibly sweet and complex, with floral and chocolate notes and almost Dan Cong oolong-like taste and aroma!  This tea can be brewed 6 to 8 times gong fu style.  We recommend using 85-90C water and brewing gong fu style to gradually coax out the flavors and aromas while avoiding astringent flavors.

Our Yunnan Sourcing Certified Organic teas are certified organic by EcoCert SA and are certified organic to international standards (EcoCert is IFOAM accredited).**

I first learned about yellow

"I first learned about yellow tea when a friend in China sent me a box of it. I have since learned that it is relatively rare and processed differently than both green and black tea. Yunnan Sourcing's brand of Organic Yellow tea is actually better tasting and, better yet, it is organic. This tea is one of the smoothest tasting teas I drink and actually has a sweet aftertaste. It does not have the stringent taste of green tea and is not as oxidized as a black tea. I highly recommend this tea to you."

Good tea, interesting experience

"I really liked this one, for me it's a great tea. The flavour is nutty, fruity, slightly vegetable, umami and sweet, and all layered in a very interesting way. The liquor is pleasantly thick and oily in texture. The only downside is that can get a bit too astringent for Yunnan sourcing standards. I didn't mind it and therefore didn't substract from the score, but some might have a problem with that. But if you treat it like green tea and keep the temp at or around 80°c (75-85) and you should be fine, however. Good for longer than I expected, about 7-9 steeps of 10+5 second each using the gongfu method. It's also quite suitable for this upcoming summer, I believe. I think it's worth it just for the simple fact that it's yellow tea, which has become quite rare nowadays. So just the experience. If you care about the formal tasting info: Unbrewed leaf quality: 9/10, good colour and leaf shape, a couple broken leaves, no sticks or intrusions noticed. Aroma: 10/10 Liquor quality: 8.5/10, the slight astringency I mentioned previously, liquor is clear, with good texture and complex, well-balanced flavour. Brewed leaf quality: 9/10, same as the unbrewed leaves."

Good yellow tea at a very reasonable price

"That's really a good yellow tea at a very reasonable price, and it's organic! You cannot find much better than this. The tea is very tasty and with yellow tea character, it can be brewed many times and it's quite tolerant to different temperatures."

Gold

"This was my first time to sample a “yellow tea.” I prepared it gōngfūchá style using a Jian shui teapot by Wang Yan Ping and a 公道杯 gōngdào bēi by potter, Lani Callahan. I was quite pleasantly surprised by the mild, round, mellow mouthfeel. All the planets aligned -the water temperature, the ratio of loose leaf to water, et al. It was a wonderful experience. -La Monte, tea enthusiast and tea presenter at Apothica Teas, Niles, Michigan USA."

Yellow tea good buy

"A little goes a long way! Very cost effective. Great taste! Just make sure you follow steeping recommendations at a lower temp and less time to eliminate any bitterness."

Yellow tea

"Clean high quality yellow tea. Not a lot of places sell good yellow tea so this is nice and I'm glad it's organic."

Not bad, but a little

"Not bad, but a little bit pale taste, like not so strong red tea. Maybe yellow teas are not mine choice."
