Hai Lang has done it again. Hai Lang collected 230 kilograms of spring 2017 and spring 2018 harvested mao cha from mature trees 大树 near Yi Bang Village. Hai Lang then had the mao cha painstakingly small-batch wet piled to perfection. After 43 days of wet piling in a Menghai area tea factory, this light fermentation ripe pu-erh tea was stored for many months before being pressed (in 2019) into these 500 gram bricks.

Yi Bang Village is a famous Yi Wu area village that is known for its mixed leaf varietal (中小叶种) assamica, which is a naturally occurring hybrid of assamica. Yi Bang is totally unique with a strong aroma, thick buttery mouth-feel, and long lasting sweet after-taste!

Hai Lang is a pu-erh dealer and producer who has been around for 20 years. He's unapologetically direct and cares more about quality and one upmanship than he does about anything else. This is a good quality in a pu-erh producer, and it's that very quality that allowed him to undertake the expense and the risk to wet pile such a tea as Yi Bang!

Unique Hai Lang Hao

"I thought I had already written a review for this one, but I do not see it so here goes. I am far from an expert on Hai Lang Hao tea as I have only tried 8 vintages. Of the 8 this one is the youngest(2019) yet buttery smooth. It has it's own flavor, which I can not pin point, but I enjoy. It is priced reasonable so buying a brick and aging may be a very smart investment. I get 6 tasty steeps out of it, I'm sure some could get more. A coming cha qi. Tea on"

Smooth as butter

"Smooth as butter. This is a creamier style for sure. Some Puerh is woodsier in character or somewhat sour, but this one is smooth and thick. Clean flavor - Wo dui not noticeable (wet pile taste). One can appreciate the quality and balanced flavor. There is a good deal of nuance to the flavor here with an overarching well rounded character. Similar to a wine that has many elements in balance. There is also a lingering flavor in the mouth. The soup is viscous and coats the entire palette. It is very satisfying in the initial brews. Cha Qi is enveloping, soothing and not overbearing. Like a warm blanket on a cold day. A good choice for drinking most times of the day. A luxurious addition to Yunnan Sourcing's Ripe offerings. If I had a way to store this properly, revisiting this tea in 20 years would be a very unique experience indeed."
