Shang Chun "赏春" means "Springtime Reward." We tirelessly blended a variety of different wild arbor and ancient arbor mao cha to create this recipe tea cake. This is the 2nd year we have produced Shang Chun, and our blending method is basically the same. This year's version is a bit stronger in taste than last year's due to the unique character of 2012 spring teas.

Blending teas is the classic approach to creating tea cakes and has been done by Menghai and Xiaguan tea factories for decades. Our blended cake is made from high quality wild arbor and ancient arbor material, instead of cheap plantation material which, without aging, is basically undrinkable.

The brewed tea is a nice balance between cha qi, mouth-feel and aroma. Cha qi is abundant and there is a force behind it. The mouth feel pleasant and stays in the mouth and throat long after drinking. The aroma is thick and floral with a sweet almost nectar like layer to it.

In total just 150 kilograms produced.  Stone-Pressed in the traditional method and wrapped in durable hand-made paper.

400 grams per cake (7 cakes per bamboo leaf tong).

Very Nice

"Received a free sample of this tea and love it. Smooth and silky. I feel chilled and floaty after drinking it. I will definitely be ordering more."

Sweet, floral and smokey.

"So I received this in my order as a free sample and felt that I had to write a review as its one of the tastiest Pu-erh's I've tried, it's got a great balance of sweet smoky and floral, I did not get a hint of astringency so I'm not sure what the other reviews where experiencing as the tea I received was very smooth oily and full bodied, I'm definitely going to buy a full cake now and try out some more yunnan sourcing raw Pu-erh."

Smooth, oily, woody

"I'm surprised to see other reviewers describing this as bitter and astringent! Are we drinking the same tea? To my taste, this is already smoother than some teas pressed a full decade earlier. It has an oily, lubricating mouthfeel, and a nice mixture of floral and woody aromas."

Powerful ager!

"This is a powerful blend for aging. Strong bitter/astringent. Mouth watering and strong body feeling."

Too astringent for me

"Got this as a free sample. It's not for me, unfortunately. Strong and astringent. I'm not a fan of this particular tea."

Justin H. (3/5)

Good blend

"Powerful chaqi and aroma. Tea got some age on it and you can see that in the cup. But will benefit from further aging. I have no idea how much this one did cost in 2012 but i would say its worth the 70 usd (sep. 2019). I got a free sample with my last order and enjoyed it. Be careful to not brew it with a mineral water. It will be very astringent that way. The cheap water you get at a 7/11 for example is much better. In Europe i would use Volvic or filtered tap water"

Powerful, balanced, delicious

"I really enjoyed this blend. It is well balanced, powerful, full flavored, warming, mouth watering, with a long and memorable finish. the leaf is olive green and a good mix. The tea is gold colored and clear. Aroma is lovely and abundant, complex mix of grainy, herbal, light flowers, a little umami, spicy. It is very inviting to my nose. The flavor is likewise powerful with this grainy, cornlike sweetness and a green vegetal herbal essence to it. Spicy, peppery and warming. Again good balance of flavors with bitterness and a light astringency with sweetness. The finish is a peppery strong vegetal and light umami. Has a full body, is mouth watering, throat warming and peppery, light balanced astringency. The aftertaste is abundant, long lasting and memorable inviting you back for more. It is a fine well balance tea and a good value."
