This is the final Yunnan Sourcing production for 2009.  Fall tea harvested in mid-October from Mang Jing village in the Jing Mai mountains was used.  Jing Mai mountains are located in the county of Lancang in the Simao Prefecture.  Jing Mai area tea trees are some of the oldest in existence and despite popular are not entirely large-leaf varietal (大叶种) but rather a mix of large and small leaf varietal "zhong ye zhong" (中叶种).

This little tea cake was stone-pressed, this medium to low level of compression is perfect for aging quickly in drier climates.  Less compression will allow the leaves to be pried from the cake easier and will preserve the integrity of the leaves for brewing.

We allowed this to age about a month before offering to our customers!  The brewed tea is delicious full of thick and sweet after-taste.  There is some bitterness present but this being a fall harvest wild arbor tea its not over-powering.  With age this will develop more textured characteristics!

The best tea I've ever

"The best tea I've ever tried"

looking forward to it

"I cannot as of yet review the tea, as I procured it for my son's 12th birthday, the renewal of his animal birth year "year of the ox" which I also share. We have a family tradition, started the year of the pig, with my daughter, to celebrate Chinese new year, on the year of their birth animals renewal, with a special tea party, where I share a tea from the year of their birth. I will let you know when I have the chance to cup it next year ;)"

Top-tier Jing Mai

"Jing Mai is consistently among my favourite areas for sheng and this is among the best I have tried. Lots of complexity with a beautiful mellow sweetness, I feel like this is in the sweet spot for age. Small amount of lingering astringency in a very specific manner which seems to come across in most Jing Mai and a very long lasting after-taste. Lots of fruity sweetness, herbal qualities with some unexpected earthiness and maybe even vanilla on the finish. Occasionally find myself questioning the legitimacy of body feel reactions in puerh reviews, a few steepings in and felt an incredibly grounding, mind numbing cha qi. The price is up there especially for a fall production, but probably worth picking up a cake. Subtle but a beautiful tea overall."
