Clay type:  Old Duan Ni clay

Maker:  Wang De Ming

Teapot style:  Ju Lun Zhu

Capacity:  80ml

Special notes:  Old Duan Ni clay fired at very high temperatures give this a black speckled effect.  High porosity!

This teapot by Wang De Ming was created by a combination of hand-work and molding.  The shape is elegant and seamless, lid fit is tight and spout intake is flat on the inside (not ball-filter). The water pours fast and even and by plugging the top the flow will stop quickly.

Biography of Wang De Ming:  Wang De Ming is an Arts and Crafts teacher and a member of the China Arts and Crafts Society.  Born in the late 60's into a family of Yixing potters where in his early years he studied the classical teapot styles and their craft. By his early 20's he invented his own styles and crafted teapots entirely unique and new.  Since that time he has been awarded several times for his creative works.

Every pot is hand-made and the artisan will sometimes change the stamps they use. There may also be some slight differences in the color, handle shape, and volume. It's not possible for us to re-take the pictures for each new batch of teapots that we receive from this artisan. Some differences in the color and shininess of the actual teapot you receive as compared to the one in the photographs may also be due to light conditions when the photographs are taken. Thanks for your understanding!

"Beautiful design and holds heat really well. Only issue is that the filter clogs quite easily but it’s too bad. Still has much personality and i enjoy it very much for my sheng puerhs!"

1 year-ish update

"I added one of these beautiful little teapots to my collection about a year ago, and have been using it pretty much every day since. The clay is gorgeous and the precision of the craftsmanship is admirable. Everybody I show this teapot to comments on it. It's hard to not shove your entire face into it and just look at the beautiful black speckles and the perfect fit of the lid to the teapot. There's a lot of subtle details to appreciate up-close. The shape and size make this teapot ideal for ripe gong ting. I can easily fit 5 to 7 grams of leaf and get 10+ cups back out, even though it only holds 80mL ish of water. There is plenty of room for the leaves to expand upward without affecting the way this teapot pours. This teapot pours evenly provided I don't invert it immediately. If I turn it upside down immediately it chugs a little bit, so I pour slowly at first and then end up with the whole teapot inverted and the pour is perfectly consistent all the way through. When it comes time to clean this teapot out, I sometimes need to grab a toothpick to poke out some of the leaves from the spout, but it's not a big deal. It takes 2 extra seconds in addition to my regular rinsing of the teapot. I will definitely be looking to add another high fired Duan Ni clay teapot in the future, perhaps made in a different shape, but certainly from the same artist. I love this teapot."

Stunning!

"Perfect solo teapot. Excellent fast pour. The best thing about this teapot is how beautiful it is and how awesome me tea tastes when brewed in it."

Beautiful, but...

"Visually very beautiful, but worse functionality, small holes in the sieve, slowly pouring, clogging, the lid overflows. A little disappointing for this price"

beautifully crafted

"This tea pot is flawless, I like the shape/style a lot and the clay is beautiful just to look at. I have half a dozen or so types of clay cups/teapots and I'm very glad I added some of this high-fired Duan Ni clay to the collection. The seal is perfect, the water pours evenly down to the last drop, and the teapot naturally sits firmly in my hand... I'm looking forward to brewing pu'erhs in it for the next few years."

Q&A

Hi Scott, what kind of tea do you recommend for this teapot?
You can use any teas in it, but I think it would be best for Dan Cong, Wu Yi Rock Oolongs, and Pu-erh (ripe and raw).
