Aged for 26 years in Kunming dry storage this classic Kunming Tea Factory product is the oldest Ripe Pu-erh we've ever sold. 9016 recipe was first introduced in 1990 (ours offered here is the first batch produced ever). There are many fakes on the market, but this is the real deal and for anyone who has ever tasted aged ripe pu-erh in a dry storage condition will recognize the authenticity and uniqueness of this amazing tea.

When brewing we recommend using the hottest water possible and your best clay teapot (already seasoned for ripe pu-erh). I recommend using 5-6 grams per 100ml. The tea opens slowly and even after several infusions there are still clumps of tea. If you prefer a shorter session with a stronger taste you can carefully break up the tea into smaller pieces.

The taste is strong with a thick oily and pungent taste. There is something that can only be described as an aged taste (陈香) present that reminds me of our 1996 CNNP "Green Mark Te Ji" Ripe Pu-erh tea cake. There is a subdued and very high clarity qi present in this tea that is unique and enjoyable. Overall I find words are lacking to relate the experience of drinking this tea. Some will find this tea to be a necessity after drinking it, others will most certainly enjoy the experience especially with a few repetitions. We are offering 10 and 25 gram sample portions for people to try this incredibly rare and classic tea.

A Timeless Rarity: Kunming Tea Factory's 1990 Aged Ripe Pu-erh

"As a loyal consumer, Kunming Tea Factory's 1990 Aged Ripe Pu-erh is my go-to for a rich and authentic tea experience. Aged for 26 years, this tea's unique 9016 recipe unfolds slowly, offering a robust, pungent taste. Brewing with hot water and a clay teapot accentuates its aged notes, creating a delightful journey with each sip. The 10 and 25-gram sample portions make it easy to enjoy this rare gem, making it a staple in my tea collection. In a world of imitations, this tea remains a genuine and cherished choice for tea enthusiasts like me."

Nice but moldy smell

"It could be tasty tea but my sample has a moldy tones."

Thick sweet and cooling ..

"One of my many samples. All of the above , Nice , thick , with a "aged" but not musty taste. Aged wood / slight camphor, calming feeling and it makes me want to drink more and more of it."

Unique and Fantastic

"This is simply an amazing tea. The infusion is an inky mahogany color and has a sort of warm petrichor scent. As you travel through multiple steeps in a gaiwan, there’s a creaminess that shows up and can be felt in the back of the throat. Generally has a very pleasant and clean leather/vanilla/dried cherry profile. I’m not very perceptive of what others call qi, but this tea absolutely produces a noticeable tranquil experience for me. If I could, I’d buy dozens of tuo chas so as to never run out of this stuff!"

Tasty beet root comfort

"I love this tea because it reminds me of beets! It has a sweet and vegetal, but very earthy flavour. It's rich and dark, like to a good shou should be. It feels grounding, like the smell of roots."

Not getting all the hype

"Based on all the rave reviews, I was really excited to try my sample of this tea. I'm used to my shou preferences being kind of different than most, and apparently that's the case once again. It has a strong enough flavor - many shous just don't have enough flavor IMHO - so that's good. Unfortunately, the flavor is too grassy tasting for me to want to drink it again. This is a bit of a letdown for me, I'm afraid."

Archetypal pu erh

"Very good experience. Almost exactly what I look for in a well-aged pu erh. The taste and smell carry some of the mountain, lacking only the suggestion of old books and afternoons spent discussing life, the universe, and everything. Good quality for the price, up to 6 or 8 paos per pot (p3) and cooks up very dark. NOT a tea to be drunk in a hurry... Gosh, wait, no, terrible tea, don't buy it... I'll take it off your hands for you...."

I want to order again and eat it.

"I wash my car once and drink the second glass, and my body sweats pleasantly. It's a refreshing feeling that the table energy of the body is escaping. After eating 25g a few months ago, I ordered 250g this time. When I put it on the scale, it was 229g, so I thought about where 21 went. ^^ I want to order again and eat it."
