Ru Yao Kiln celadon wares originate from Henan province. The technique was perfected in the Song Dynasty. The glaze used is unique and contains some small amounts of iron giving the fired glaze a luminescent look to it. Small veins exist after the firing process and with seasoning the veins will grow more prominent and will take on a golden brown color. Ru Yao wares should be cleaned with tea water or spring water and will develop a luster with repeated use.

History of Ru Yao Celadon Ware

Ru Yao (Ru ware) comes from the kilns around Ruzhou in today’s Henan and rose to fame in the Northern Song (11th–12th century). It was one of the “Five Great Kilns” prized at court. Classic pieces were small, simple forms made of fine stoneware and covered in a soft celadon glaze described in old texts as “the sky after rain.” Production was brief and imperial demand was high, which is why original Ru ware is now museum-level rare.

What makes Ru Yao special is the glaze. It’s a potassium–calcium celadon enriched with a little iron and fired in reduction at very high temperature. At peak heat the glaze becomes glass-smooth; as it cools, tiny bubbles and micro-crackle (开片) form, giving the surface its luminous depth and the famously soft, “baby-skin” feel. Modern Ru-style celadon is made in several studios (not just Henan) using the same principles: pale jade to moon-white color, fine crackle that slowly takes on tea color, and an understated form that lets the glaze do the talking.

Great mini-pot for mini-sessions

"I wanted the smallest pot that was feasible to brew mini-sessions in, and this is it. It is a challenge to fit longer leaves into it, and the pour is a bit dribbly, but for this price and size all I expect is basic functionality. Not only is it functional, but the blue glaze looks great with some nice crazing developing on it already. This was a very useful addition to my collection."

Nice little teapot

"Beautiful little pot, I'm trying to find the way the top completely closes, I think I will. :)"

The right size

"It is the right size for drinking sheng at the end of the day. when you don't want to be pumped with tea before going to bed. I use it from time to time, and I am glad I have it. It's quite functional, when the leaves are clean and without dust and crumbles, you need not cha hai and stainer, but only this little teapot and your favourite little teacup. Minimalistic aesthetics gives more space and air. Very nice. I would give it four and a half stars. If the lid fitted tight I would give five."

Cute and functional pot!

"Cute little teapot, I use it mainly as a travel brewer. Perfect for quick sessions without using too much tea (2g are enough for this pot) or water. Mantains heat very well."

Very cute

"I recieved this as a gift and it is adorable. I wouldn't say it's very useful as a tea brewing vessle but it is a lovley little piece of pottery and can work great as a tea-pet of sorts. The glaze a really beautiful cracked baby-blue colour. It's smaller than I expected from the photos which makes it all the more lovely!"

"Très jolie théière conforme aux photos je l'utilise tout les jours soit pour la dégustation soit pour les cérémonies du thé. Le thé n'est pas gâcher. En plus j'ai l'impression de jouer à la dînette c'est rigolot"

Прекрасные чайнички!

"Купил все четыре. Если нужно заварить шесть почек лунцина (седьмая не поместится) - то в самый раз."

Nice!

"To be honest, when you used to drink 1 liter plus of tea per day, you're not feeling full of tea. It has incredible detail and it's kind of cool to have such miniature teapot in your vitrine. In regards to brew a taste of tea, there's no difference between big and small teapot."
