"Bao Hong" tea is from Yi Liang county of Yunnan. Its leaf is quite small and it carries a high level of aroma. The leaves are always picked when very small and fresh during a two hour window of time in the early morning of mid-February. The aroma is intense and fresh. It was first grown in the Tang Dynasty (A.D. 618-907) at the same time a Buddhist Monastery was built on Bao Hong Mountain. The original tea plant was brought by a visiting monk from Fujian. This tea has been growing on Bao Hong Mountain since that time (over 1200 years ago).

Yi Liang county has a very moderate climate with a mean daily temperature of 16.3 degrees Celsius, and an average yearly rainfall of about 950 centimeters. The Bao Hong Mountain tea garden is an average of 1550-1630 meters above sea level, where it is often shrouded in mist diffusing the sunlight just enough to create a perfect light balance. Bao Hong mountain is a remote area of Yunnan where the tea plants enjoy a natural unadulterated environment.

The tea itself is full and plump but small. It has a high level of fragrance and the tea soup is thick and awash with the little hairs that grow on the tea leaves.

Comparable in many aspects to a Dragon Well, but unique in its own right.

Good but price is a little high

"Good dragon well tea, but for the price you can get better"

Nice, but not worth the cost

"Overall it is a pretty nice green tea. However despite its shape and aroma, it doesn't really taste like a LJ. It even has some unpleasant levels of bitterness which I wasn't expecting out of a green tea in this price range. Overall it's certainly drinkable but if you enjoy the nutty, buttery taste of LJ then I would steer clear. The premium dragon well on here is still my favorite, and comes in slightly cheaper too."

unique tea

"The description says “It is comparable to Dragon's Well in many ways, but is unique in its own right. ” That's true. I love Dragon's Well, but I liked this tea even more. It's fresh, aromatic, delicious and tonic."

Eugene (5/5)

"It's a very good tea"

Ievgen (5/5)

Smooth and fresh with a medium flavor strength

"This dragon well has a softer flavor compared to what I had from last year, 2023. This tea works well for Grandpa style. I put it in my tea jar and use 70°C water."

Dragonwell with a hint of white tea

"This dragonwell is so different than my "utilitarian" dragonwell I've been drinking for years. It tastes like you combined a light, high-quality dragonwell with a white tea. You get the fuzzy, apricot flavor of a white tea with the rich green tea background. I like it brewed strong at 175 for 1.5 minutes. It has some astringency so I like a shorter brew time on this one."

Amazing taste, finally a Long Jing to write home about! 🙂

"Once upon a time I fell in love with nutty smell and aftertaste, but for a few years I couldn’t find the long jing tea that would quite match the expectations. Some smelled great, but the taste was flat and disappointing. This tea is not Long Jing, but a separate style, but it looks and tastes much like one and I can tell you- for me it is a best „Long Jing” I’ve had in a long long time. Surely, I will order more in the future. 🤩"

Nice green tea

"I really like this green tea. Nice nutty sort of flavor, not as sweet or grassy as other greens I've had."

Thomas B. (5/5)
