Go Xiaguan Go!

"I haven’t been a huge ripe drinker in recent years bc I’m picky :) but grabbed several cakes of this “Sweet Puerh” as a gamble (yikes!) last year for the nice price and good reviews. I recently got around to drinking it and I like it! It’s a nice cheap tea with some smooth creaminess and sweet afterfinish reminiscent of Dayi V93. So far, I seem to prefer over stuffing this tea into my little Jian Shui pot and blasting it with boiling water. By the 3rd or so steep thick chocolate flavor emerges ahhh! Later long-haul steeps as it’s thinning and undarkening bring decent flavor. There’s no ‘off’ flavors that I can detect, just a solid ripe tea. I’m a happy gambler :)"

Great for the price

"However I do recommend steeping around the 190s if you're using yixing. 195~200 I think. Boiling gives off a not so great flavor."

For $13?? What a steal.

"Flavor-wise, this matches most of the Menghai pu'erh teas I've tried; and it does so at an amazing price. It is a Sweet tea, so you have to be okay with that."

Reasonable cheap tea

"This is a decent tea for the price - it's certainly nothing special, but better than most similarly priced teas. I usually drink cheaper Dayi Shu, which is close to this price, and that is better than this - cleaner, smoother, more interesting. This tea has a much more fermented taste, a strong bit of smoke, and is generally pretty unsubtle. But again, for the price it's not bad at all."

An enjoyable daily tea for

"An enjoyable daily tea for an unbeatable price. I prefer to brew grandpa style while working at the computer, and as others have mentioned, the astringency, reminiscent of leather or wet stone, is prominent in the front of the mouth in the first few steeps — although I do wonder if this is a product of the longer steep times I use. The sweetness isn't discernible for me until later steeps and is not overpowering. Tastes like cranberries. I do find the body somewhat thin. All in all, while I am never disappointed by this tea, I do find myself reaching more frequently to my thicker-bodied Dayi cake."
