This Lao Cha Tou (lit. old tea nuggets) ripe pu-erh tea is wet piled from premium spring 2018 harvested Bu Lang area tea leaves.  This brews up an incredibly potent and rich chocolateley tea.  It can be steeped a ridiculous number of times.

This comes in a clay jar which contains 60 grams of tea, and is perfect for storing and aging the tea!  It also makes an awesome gift!

Cha Tou is a kind of tea nugget that forms naturally from the pressures of compression and heat that occurs during the fermentation process. Typically during fermentation process to make ripe pu-erh there is a pile of tea about 1 meter high. It is kept wet to allow the fermentation process and the pile is turned every few days to allow for an even degree of fermentation, moving the tea from the bottom of the pile (where it is hotter and wetter) to the top of the pile where it is cooler and drier. The "cha tou" are the leaves that ball up and get stuck together. The best cha tou are ones that have not been over-fermented and are smaller in size (like these).

2018 Harvested, wet piled in 2019.

From the Bu Lang area of Menghai County (Xishuangbanna, Yunnan).

60 Grams of tea in each jar.

I love the texture and

"I love the texture and depth of Lao Cha Tou. This did not disappoint. I enjoy the Jinggu purple a bit more but I love the clay pot this one came in. It adds to my tea decor. The tea itself has good flavor and depth and is smooth."

"Tastes great with a caramel after taste, and the jar is super cute."

Good tea for work

"I like this tea. It's got a enough caffeine to keep me focused without making me jittery. It tastes like a typical ripe Pu Erh, but it doesn't stand out to me in regards to the flavor. However, the number of infusions you get is amazing. I've found I can put three or four of the little nuggets in my Gaiwan and use them all day at work. I drink tea pretty much continuously all day while I work so it's nice that I don't have the distraction of emptying and refilling my Gaiwan."

Absolutely great Lai Cha Tou

"Absolutely great Lai Cha Tou at an appropriate price, worth having in one's collection. Wet smell: fruity ripe shou Tasting notes: thick oily texture, taste wise like a subtle dry storage shou, stamina for many brews, at the end very pleasant sweet notes"

A tea that keeps on giving

"I can confirm the ridiculous amount of times you can steep this tea. For a small pot, the tiniest amount is needed. I am still a beginner to the world of pu-erh, and I found that wet pile creates far less dust and tiny particles than a brick or cake, so I am very pleased with the experience of this tea. The flavour is rich and delicious, as others have stated. This is my personal favourite pu-erh as of today."

Smooth, dark chocolate

"Also partly bought this for the container, which is lovely, but very small. The tea itself comes in large lumps, which give a strong brew, with a rich flavour akin to dark chocolate. Delicious."

Justin H. (5/5)

Classic

"Very smooth and easy to drink over many infusions. A classic Puerh."
