A production of 100% Bu Lang Mountain material from Spring 2007.  Produced by a small Menghai area tea factory called "Pin Xiang Tea Factory" and then aged for almost 10 years in hot and humid Guangdong.  The degree of wet storage is just perfect, transforming the Bu Lang bitterness into something sweet and spicy, textured and complex with a mild not overpowering cha qi.

This is a perfect tea for those looking for an aged raw pu-erh that still has some character and bite to it that can be purchased on a tight budget.  The quality to price ratio with this tea is very strong, and it will not disappoint even the sophisticated sheng enthusiast.

White wrapper version available for a little bit cheaper.  We got a couple of cases of this tuo that had badly torn up wrappers, so we've re-wrapped them in white paper.

A Very Nostalgic Brew

"I've only had this tea once since I ordered it, because I've heard that puerh is best if it's left to settle for a while after shipping. I've tried a lot of teas of all types, but my experience with sheng/raw puerhs is not huge. I brewed it gong fu style. 7 grams to my smallish gaiwan (not sure of the volume, but it's definitely under 200ml) The water I used was maybe in the high 80s or low 90s. I boiled it and added added a bit of cold to the kettle. This tea was amazing. The smell of the tea reminded me of the old thick canvas tents that we used to use at our scout camps. A slightly damp smell, but not not unpleasant at all. The taste of the tea was great too. I immediately got an impression of old varnished wood. Even the (very slight) astringency of the varnish smell. Then it reminded me of visiting an old, cold church in the winter time. There were also wet wood flavours, like when you try to gather wood for a campfire, but it's rained all day. Honestly, I'd really liken this one to a shou puerh. It's not got that sort of smooth, dark, almost cocoa note that a lot of shous have, nor any creaminess, but it definitely has that amazing woody, damp funk that I've not found in young shengs that I've tried in the past."

Biting the ground

"Very good pu'er tea (price - quality) ! I experienced the aroma of young roots among all the others. Complex, without bitterness. I highly recommend with 100 °C."

2007 Bu Lang Shan Tuo raw

"I absolutely love this tea! It is so good! This is my favorite raw PuErh at the moment. I like how the leaves brew up brown instead of green. I love how this tea reminds me of a shoe or ripe puErh but it’s not it’s a raw. It’s a tight compression but that’s no problem because I have a chisel. I purchased 8 different raw puErhs to try and this one is my favorite! I’m so grateful for Yunnan sourcing so I can have these awesome teas here in United States at the perfect price. Thank you 🙏"

Not quite my taste

"My first aged raw pu erh, so i can only compare it with unaged raw pu erh or shu. Smells like cave/cellar, leather, dust (or maybe something like paper?), antique wood and like the wet reptile section in a zoo :) I tried some variations in the brew, so my personal favourite is to rinse it, throw away the first brew and drink the second. The bew has a very beautiful sunset and cherry color and is not as dark as a shu. It tastes like antique wood, leather, with a slight astringency of roasted coffee beans and has also a slight oily texture. The tea can be really energizing, so i have to be "prepared" when i want to have a session."

Awesome!

"I was hoping this tea to begood and it didn't dissapoint me. I loved how aromatic is, so complex, with many layers, and the first steeping very thick, powerful in the mouth. It was a little bit bitter, but sweetnes higher, and the next steepings goes sweeter. The price is very affordable , nonetheless is a great tea."

Q&A

Hello Scott, is it possible this will be restocked? It really is a good tea and seems to have been popular over the years. I suspect its 10 years of wetter storage really helped it along.
We restocked it.
I liked this tea and has decent Cha qi which is the most important factor for me, not taste. In comparison to some other Raw teas I've had this one had decent cha qi. what are other Raw teas that have strong cha qi? can you recommend a few raw teas at the low to mid price range? Thanks!
