This tea was picked from the first flush of spring harvest high in the mountains of Simao. These tender young buds were processed in a way that is similar to how other premium small-leaf tea varietals (like Emei Sichuan Zhu Ye Qing) are processed elsewhere in China, but as this is from a large-leaf tea varietal of Yunnan (Camellia Sinensis var. Assamica), it retains some distinct characteristics and a bolder large-leaf taste. This tea is high in tannins which give it a penetrating vegetal aroma and a strong "umami" flavor which coats the mouth and throat.

These leaves are best brewed in a clear glass or cha hai which shows off the tendency of the leaves to line up vertically, some floating at the surface and others sinking to the bottom.

A very peculiar tea

"Seldom did my expectations from the first smell of a green tea diverge so much from what it would turn out to be. At first the dry leaves offer a strong and promising aroma of sweetness and hay. Surprinsingly that didn't translate into the steeped tea at all. From the first steeping on (Gong Fu method) it had vegetal notes with a pronounced bitterness and the aroma reminded me of cooked spinach. From the description I expected the bitterness, but found the brew to be somewhat lacking in complexity. Though this tea isn't finished there, somewhat suprisingly it offers a lingering aftertaste, reminding me somewhat of young Sheng. The aftertaste is sweet, with vegetal notes and keeps the bitterness."

"The Tee has a very intense flavor. Unfortunately one of those was not for me. The dominent flavor reminded me of a flavor I find in local smoked Bell Peper chips/crisps, which I usually like, but not in my Tee."
