This is a unique tea to be sure. It's made from Wild Tree Purple varietal tea (ye sheng cha) growing in the Big Snow Mountain area of Yong De county. The tea grows wild and is only harvested in March. The tea was processed using the same technique used for Yue Guang Bai, the tea wilts briefly before being put into a long wind tunnel tube, where the action of air movement gradually halts the oxidation of the tea.

The taste is something unique too. There is a ton of complexity, with notes of fruit, flower, sugarcane, and a kind of bitterness that fades quickly. With just a couple years of age,  most of the bitterness has already transformed into fruity sweetness with a long lasting after-taste. The tea soup is yellow, and is thick and soupy.

"Flavor and character are fantastic and allow for many steeps. The quality of the packing and leaves is very good. Almost not dust. Almost all leaves are intact with little to no torn leaves or leaf "chunks""

Big Snow Big Flavor

"This dragon ball presentation is a novel and appealing shape and size. Use a 150 ml pot or gaiwan and steep fast and frequently. I like all the YS purple varietals of white tea from Yong De that I’ve sampled. I have a 2002 white tea from Big Snow Mountain that is one of my all time favorite teas, so I think this one will age agreeably for a long time."

An amazing tea

"An amazing tea! I have only occasionally had white tea. But Big Snow Mountain Wild white tea has changed my prospective. It is a stunning tea! Extremely complex."

Creamy and Complex

"The description of this tea's flavor is spot on. It has the floral and fruity qualities that you would expect out of a white tea. I taste the bitterness (comes off funky to my tastebuds) a little bit after the first sip, but it does fade. I like my white tea cold brewed, so I do 2 hot steeps in a gaiwan to loosen and hydrate the leaves in the ball, and then multiple cold steeps. It's perfect for any white tea lover."

Great, especially at this price point

"I personally love this tea and am slightly suprised to see only one other person has reviewed it. Brewed it grandpa style to make sure the ball opened up well and the description is right. It has complex flavors; you can taste the sweetness, the white tea itself, I even got a hint of chocolate. The other part is true as well: there is some astringency and some light bitterness. Even though I don't like my teas to be bitter or astringent, I wasn't too bothered by it in this case because the astringency actually helped bring out the complex flavors more. The cha qi is also great, I was greatly relaxed by this tea. I think this might be my second-favorite white tea ball, after the moonlight white one, just because that one is just completely devoid of astringency and bitterness. Then again, that one is also slightly more expensive. So at this price point, this is an amazing tea and gets that extra star resulting in 5/5!"

Q&A

I have never made Dragon Balls before and would like to know if there are any specific recommendations?
Use a gooseneck teapot and that stream coming from the spout will strongly agitate the ball more allowing it to spin and come apart more easily, kind of like a chunk of compressed pu-erh.
