2026 Yunnan Sourcing "Purple White Tea" of Yong De Tea Cake

This is a unique tea to be sure. It's made from Wild Tree Purple varietal tea (ye sheng cha) growing in the Mang Fei mountain area of Yong De county. The tea grows wild and is only harvested in March. The tea was processed using the same technique used for Yue Guang Bai, the tea wilts briefly before being put into a long wind tunnel tube, where the action of air movement gradually halts the oxidation of the tea.

The taste is something unique too. There is a ton of complexity, with notes of fruit, flower, sugarcane, and a kind of bitterness that fades quickly. With even a few months of age the bitterness will transform into fruit sweetness with a long lasting after-taste. The tea soup is yellow, and is thick and soupy.

An incredibly rare tea, only 50 kilograms in total production!

Impressive for its age & unique

"I got the 25-gram sample, in one of the tea boxes. Opening the bag, it smelled of pistachios, which I’ve never experienced with white tea. The wet leaf after a wash brought that pistachio scent out, but with an asparagus and anthocyanin undertone. I don’t like asparagus, but with how subtle, delicate, and multiplicative of the green qualities it was, I found no issue in enjoying it. It’s quiet psychoactive for such a young white tea—it feels like an older white tea with that anthocyanin effect. However, it’s a much more polymerized experience than just drinking aged white tea and purple raw pu’erh, etc. separate. I should mention; this is my first purple white tea. Albeit, I think the flavor needs some time, but it’s certainly good. Those aforementioned green and white qualities are a bit wanting in the sense that I want more, and I think it could use that aged complexity. I would only give it a few years at most to retain the green qualities. I do think the purple/anthocyanin flavor is just powerful enough to be noticeable, but not excessive. I am going to order a whole cake, next Y. S. order."
