With this lovely cake we celebrate an age-old tradition of mixing raw and ripe pu-erh tea together to create a harmonious blend worthy of aging. Like the famous "Purple Heaven" bricks and cakes from the 80's and 90's, we have blended ripe and raw Pu-erh tea together. The raw and ripe pu-erh both came from the same tea garden in Na Han village (Bang Dong county of Lincang), with both ripe and raw being harvested in the Spring of 2023.

The addition of raw pu-erh tea to this predominately ripe pu-erh tea cake results in a lovely experience. It's not so different from ripe pu-erh tea, but there is an additional layer of texture that enhances the overall taste/complexity of the tea but never detracting from it. I tirelessly blended teas together and experimented with ratios to find the best possible outcome. I hope you'll enjoy this lovely tea!

"I ordered this tea along with several other 2024 ripes to sample, not realizing it was a blend of raw and ripe puerh. Prior to this, I was unaware that such a combination existed. I typically drink ripe puerh in the morning, as my empty stomach is sensitive to raw puerh. For my first session, I blindly selected this tea from my sample collection without noticing the blend of raw and ripe puerh. The aroma from the warmed gaiwan was doughy and fudgy, characteristic of a good ripe puerh, with no indication of the raw puerh component. The first infusion was a bit light, lacking the deep, rich flavor I expected, but I attributed this to the first brew. However, on the second infusion, I immediately noticed a distinct change in flavor that suggested the presence of raw puerh. Upon checking the label, I confirmed that it was indeed a raw and ripe blend. This discovery was a pleasant surprise! Initially, I had doubts about whether I would enjoy a combination of the two types of puerh, but it turned out to be quite enjoyable. While it didn’t have the bold, deep profile typical of ripe puerh, the raw puerh added a level of sophistication, and my empty stomach had no trouble tolerating it. The raw puerh contributed a lively "twang," reminiscent of a young raw, while the ripe puerh smoothed out the texture and provided a medium-bodied, rounded mouthfeel.
